Mirtazapine withdrawal

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had been on Mirtazapine (30mg) for about six months when I decided that I needed to come off them due to the weight gain. Following my GP's advice, I lowered my dosage by half for a week and then came off them completely. The weeks that followed were horrific. The withdrawals were so bad that I was constantly in contact with 111. This calmed down after a few weeks, but now, just over a month later, I'm waking at 2/3am each morning with intense anxiety/nausea and not being able to go back to sleep. How long can withdrawals last? I'm at a complete loss with what to do.

That is an extremely quick taper! I mean almost cold turkey from 30mg. I would've told you to reinstate but now that you are 1 month in, I'm not really sure. I think if I were you I would reinstate at like 3.75mg or 7.5mg just to check that your symptoms are withdrawal-related. That will probably bring huge relief. Then start slowly tapering from there over the next 2-3 months.

But usually withdrawal symptoms disappear from 2 weeks to 2-3 months after discontinuation so you could tough it out if you're brave.
