Mirtazapine withdrawal, how long will this last??!!!!

Posted , 84 users are following.

Help! I slowly tapered off Mirtazapine. It's been 4 and a half weeks off it now and I'm sure I'm still experiencing withdrawal?! I have crippling morning anxiety and zero appetite, the weight gained on Mirt has fallen off! I also feel sick most of the day. I got so down last week that I very nearly went back on it, but couldn't bare the thought of coming off again! Insomnia has just kicked in too.

I don't mean to post this to scare anyone, as when I was at my darkest Mirt really helped me. I just wanted to know if there's anyone out there going through what I'm going through? Any advice? How long can it last?

I'd appreciate any help x

    Hi Kirsten

    Hope you’re still doing good.

I know it’s  been 5 months since you posted last but have a question I hope you can answer.

How long were you on 15mg of Mirtazapine?

I’m withdrawing from mirtazapine to and the side effects are truly hard to live with but all I can say is I’m not giving up now I’ve reduced from 30mg to 7.5mg in 9 weeks which I think was too quick but part of me just wants to stop it

Yes it did help when I needed it but nobody told me about the withdrawal

    I hope your ok

Be very careful about dropping. It took me months to get from 7.5 to 1mg and i stopped a month ago.  Having all the bad feelings back, anxiety high, mood low, awful nausea.  So hoping this will, pass but it is not quick or easy fix,  recommended drop os 10% per month or longer. How are you getting on ?

I went to my GO yesterday and she gave me liquid mirtazapine to be able to drop slowly over the next few months

I feel awful and my headaches are crippling

Hello Caroline. are you in the USA?. Im in Australia. Im saying to myself now why doesn't my Doctor give me a liquid to taper down off Mirtazapine?????

Iv gone cold turkey after 5 years on mirtazapine, heard tapering was just as bad so thought I’d get it over with, almost 6 weeeks now and iv been through hell but I had to stay positive, still have a little bit of anxiety every now and then but it’s managable, I found metitation was amazing for helping with sleep, I found that on YouTube, deep breathing also helps a lot, it really has a lot to do with your mental state and how positive you are

Hello Majella..... im going through hell getting off Mirtazapine. Nobody will listen to me .

Did you taper off them, going cold turkey isn’t for everyone, I felt in the right frame of mind to stop, you will have anxiety, stress, sickness, headaches, fast heartbeatsever insomnia but it’s well worth it in the end, if I was to do it again I would have tapered myself off them

Yes I think they have gone but I’m on a new antidepressant and I’m sure that’s helping me but I did get down to 7.5mg before I started my new one

The withdrawals are so hard the tremors and shaking is exhausting and the sensations in my head did you get att that I’m now three weeks off mirtazapine today

Hi, I got all of these yes, they liken it gone withdrawl from heroine apparently. I always thought I was cold at first, then realised the shaking was due to withdrawal, it will subside I promise. You're doing well at 3 week, 3-4 weeks was tough for me, so you are getting there!
