Hello folks,
I started taking this for sleep anxiety but i really dont like it and want to get off ASAP.
I have started last night with a 7.5 mg dose and seems ok so far. Can you please post some encouraging suggestions to help me sucessfully titrate down. Shall i skip some doses?
Thank you and please help ! We can get through this.

Hello Zen. You're doing completely the right thing by coming off it! How long have you been on?
If only a short time (a few nights) you can just stop. If you are into weeks, it may be worth cutting it in half and see how you go. If it causes a problem, then go slower and chip off a quarter.
Some people are more sensitive to it than others. I tried to skip does when withdrawing but it didn't work for me - yet I have seen others who did every other day and it worked for them. I went cold turkey after just under a year and got myself into the most awful mess.
It's a bit of trial and error. 3.75mg (1/4 of a 15mg tablet) did the trick for me as far as helping with sleep went.
Don't read too much into the horror stories as it's a bit like a self fulfilling prophecy.
Good luck and I hope you post back on how you've got on.

Just realised you've been on 11 days. If you've halved it to 7.5 and haven't had any problems, that bodes well. I'd stabilise at 7.5 and if you don't get any withdrawals cut again to 3.75. Then do the same down to 1.875. And then off.

thankyou so much sazzle65 i just want off this drug now. although it has controlled my sleep anxiety i am in shock about the eating pattern where i am so hungry all the time. 11 days in had enough most of my side effects have gone now. i am going to be on 7.5 for sometime and stabilise like u said. its mainly the sleep i need this for. so 7.5 is more of a sedative. i have also joined survivingantidepressants site and lot of people are following protocols of tapering. please have a look there too. dropping down to 7.5 was not a major issue today. i will see how this goes . i have also ordered a pill cutter and will cut down. the next time i speak to my doc probably sure it wont be the same doc i shall ask for the liquid version which is easier to titrate down. i am so pleased the 3.75 worked for u. its definitely more sedating at lower doses. i wont even bother telling the doc they dont really care a year ago i was put on sertraline after 15 days of mirt and i simply took the mirt for 15 more and then stopped sert picked up quickly. now i dont want to be on these meds honestly . in addition i am taking 2 omega capsules everyday they help a lot it is said as the brain is better on them and they repair it after ADs. are u completely off now ?

Give yourself a big pat on the back for having the insight to get off them fast. If I were you, I wouldn't drag out the taper as your then subjecting your system to them for even longer. The first time I took mirtazapine it was about 5 years ago and I realised it was bad news after a couple of weeks and just stopped with no ill effects at all.
The eating is insane. I was only ever on a tiny dose but couldn't stop eating which was really distressing .
This time is a different story as I'd been on for much longer - the last 6 weeks have been pure hell and it's not over yet. I stopped cold turkey at 3.75 and it has been worse than the horror stories Ive read on here - I feel I can tell you that as you won't need to go through that as you're very wisely getting off them now and you haven't been on them for long!
I'm on the Omega and magnesium too.
There is a good, grounded facebook group that will be able to offer support and encouragement. Do a drop, make sure you've stabilised and then drop again. Oh, and don't let the well meaning folks over at survivingantidepressants scare you. I got myself into some proper states by reading the stuff on that site (and this one!), adding a level of self induced psychological torture to the mental and physical symptoms!! There's every chance, due to the time frame and your 7.5 drop already, that you'll sail through this.
Best of luck to you, Zen.

thankyou so much sazzle you are a star and do appreciate your comments. i am on 3.75 now started on thursday night. sleep is still fine but keep having crying spells due to anxiety during the day. that has been the main issue everytime i drop. gp got no clue what this med is but did say jts mainly for sleep. i agree with u i should be ok as its not much time since i took it. just need to sail through this frankly dont wanna feel like this at all. how is your taper going ? think i will stay on this for week or two and then drop down again. i have propanalol as a aid to help with anxiety. drinking tart cherry juice before bedtime seems to help a lot plus the magnesium. how are u getting along ? ps the eating has reduced considerably now. take care x

so i have had enough of this drug simply doing nothing for my ocd anxiety and depression. i got down to 7.5 then 15 for two days and thats it i am quitting cold turkey. i have had appointment with the pschy and i have been put on paroxetine from today. basically its just ridiculous when i called the doc she said increase mirtazapine. i was like now way this is gone far enough. yesterday was last day for 15 mh and i am soo groggy cud hardly walk to the pharmacy to get my new pills. when i told the doc this is making me eat like crazy she said she never heard of that. my good gp who was not available has already told me mirtazapine does not do much. huh yesterday was my last dose and i will want to burn these medicines. sazzle please think of switching to something more suitable if u want to sounds counterintiuitive but anything is easy to come off than mirtazapons . i had quit sertraline cold turkey and had 0 issues no joke. i hate mirtazapine i need to take meds fir my OCD anxiety and depression combo

i need to get off this awful drug too. I was taking 30mg and knocked me out. Woke up everyday before 7am. I could never sleep longer. I wake up restless, slurring words, sick at stomach, dry heaving. Started taking 15mg and was sick every single day like I had the Flu. I did not feel like eating. Felt better every night about 11pm. I have no improvement. Anti nausea medicine doesn't work either.
I used a pill cutter to cut 15mg in half to see if next day nausea is still there.
I hate that doctor prescribe such awful medicine that debilitated me for about five days now. I need to taper off safely and without getting super sick and anxious. Any tips?

hi doug
please get off this drug it is not the best for depression and anxiety the best use of this is insomnia and sleep anxiety i give it 10 on 10. pls dont stop cold turkey go v slow and ask the gp to cross taper if u really reallly need something else. there are protocols to go down on this slowly. i need something for ocd and this was not cutting it. there are many sites that advocate 10% taper and its fine to go that route to avoid withdrawal. this is the second time i have been cross tapered off this awful drug. my doc said just stop as i have not been taking it too long so the thing you mentioned is exactly right i only felt better in evenings around 6.00 what is the point then. morninh anxiety was worst with multiple crying spells. dontvworry u will do it just go slow .i also bought melatonin spray for sleep.
