Was recently put on mirtazipine to help with appetite. I'm down to 96 pounds. The med knocks me out and makes my weak fatigued state even worse. My job is suffering from it. I need advice and help badly. What have you taken to help eat? Thanks in advance. This chrons disease is literally knocking me on my nonexistent ass.

I haven’t heard of this medication so can’t give any tips on that but what I do have when I’m struggling with flares is nutritional supplements drinks. Prescription only (in uk), I’m on fortisips & they have all the nutrients you need to function without your gut having to work too hard. I also have modulen which is similar to an elemental diet where you only drink this & leave solid food out completely. This is supposed to be good for crohns as helps calm inflammation whilst feeding you..
I hope you feel better soon x

Hi Kissierox, I've also never heard of mirtazipine, so I cannot help you.
Hi Hollaka79, I'm also from the UK, I have been on Ensure plus drinks for 5+ years, on prescription, but has been stopped and have been put on Foodlink Complete. My IBD Specialist Nurse has also mentioned fortisips,
any info would be great, as I don't know what the differences are. Have you tried all 3?
Thanks, Twiglet,

Hi there
I used to be on ensure years ago & also had them when I lived in the states briefly. It’s pretty similar to fortisips. I will only take the strawberry flavoured ones as others make me gag! The strawberry fortisips are actually quite nice. Kind of like actimel strawberry yoghurt drinks, just a bit thicker.
As for foodlink, I’ve not tried that so can’t comment. I did try the modulen on Sunday & it literally mad me gag so there’s no way I can tolerate it orally. It’s absolutely foul & even the smell made me & my 11 year old daughter gag! I’d rather have an ng tube than drink that 😤😤
If you liked ensure you’ll more than likely like the fortisips. My dietician sent me a whole load of samples to try so maybe your IBD nurse can do the same? ??
