Mirtazapine is an excellent drug for depression but it sounds as though it isn't helping you at all. Also 45mg is a very high dose to be on. It can be quite sedating and it maybe the drug making you have no motivation. I would go back to your doctor and explain that it's not helping you.

All ADs act on the serotonin you have in your body, either by preventing the nerve cells re-uptaking it and therefore making more available, or by increasing your sensitivity to the serotonin. They don't actually give you more of it, just change the way your body works with it. A good natural substance which gives you more get up and go is inositol (vitamin B8) although you need to take a lot of it for it to work. I take one - two heaped teaspoons of it in my tea every morning and it really lifts my mood.

    Hi

thank you so much, yes it's helping with the depression but I am lethargic all the time even though I take it at night, maybe I will half the dose although I still wake up 3/4 time a nice gut sedated or not which is strange?  I am open to anything that will increase it I have had sertiline too maybe one that would increase the sensitivity to it it certainly does not make a difference to my sleep as in making me sleep through the night!

Thank ni you so much I have tried every "new method" of increase the newish is oxytocin which is very very expensive I am sick of paying for these things.

Hi all ad's work on producing more serotonion in the brain - that's how they work and the reason why they are prescribed.   It sounds more like mirtazapine isn't working very well for you and you might need a change of meds.  I am on sertraline which work well for me but they are the 3rd one I tried as the others didn't really help.  x

    Dear Debbie,

i don't believe that one person can help another person as far as depression goes. I can only tell you that remedies are a combination of several Things. First, don't expect medication to be a solution on its own. Take walks daily, try mild exercise. Seek psychiatric help. Now please allow me to explain further. Go to your doctor and tell him the medication is not right. Sometimes it takes experimenting and trying several drugs. If you are on medication you will also have to watch your diet and eat very healthy, drink a lot of water otherwise medication will play havoc with your bowels. Same with finding a psychiatrist. Most are simply not good at their profession. Again, hard work finding the right one. Same with walking and exercise.you may feel you can't but you must. There is not an instant cure for depression.
