Misdiagnosed ?

hello
so back to august, my stomach started gurgling a LOT. Then, I saw a little ammount of red blood in the toilet. I went to the doctor and I had blood tests that were perfectly normal. But I still saw red blood in my stools from time to time plus mucous. I then went to a specialist who referred me for a flexible sigmoidoscopy. I had it in late november and there was no polyp but apparently I have an aphthoid proctitis. also, biopsies were taken and the results are normal except a small edema of Chorion (what is it?). So I guess it was the cause of the red blood in my stools and the mucous. HOwever, my gut is still gurgling (on left side mainly). I am so afraid that the diagnosis is not proctitis but a cancer as the flexible sigmoidoscopy didnt went through all my colon... I dont know what to do

Edema is inflammatory and access fluid ,, did they say yours was an acute case ? These pockets of access fluids usually heal on there own ,but some doctors do recommend advil , for pain and inflammation . Were you prescribed anything ? Yes this can cause blood in the stool along with mucous . The gurgling will subside as the built up fluid subsides , of course understand it being an injury on the inside it will take a little longer to heal as those injuries on the outside . Relax ,if the exam showed no cancer ,it isnt there to find ! Thank God ! It is also a good idea to eat antiviral anti inflammation foods while you are healing . This will help the process .

well I have Pentasa suppositories for 4 weeks. They didnt say anything about it being acute. The specialist told me to go see her if after my treatment I still see bloods. I read that aphthous can be caused by the preparation for the flexible sigmoidoscopy that is why I am stressed as the biopsies are normal except the edema. Moreover, I wonder if it was Crohn disease or UC, the biopsies would have shown it ? I also read that aphthous ulcers can be the early lesions of Crohn disease. The doc explained nothing except that there was no cancer. So that is why I'm afraid there is something higher up ... Thank you anyway for you reply x

Our daughter had a flexible sigmoidoscopy that did not see far enough up for her tumour. I would insist on a colonoscopy.
She was only 21 and they said that girls of your age don't get colon cancer.

I hope your daughter is well now. I will finish the treatment and if after I have finished it there is still blood, I will definitely ask for one. It's very hard as I live very far from my parents. I´m always worried even though I know I have proctitis... Anyway thank you

How old are you ? Without trying to frighten you.
She went back for a second appointment six weeks later and was told that she was wasting their time. The pain and bleeding continued and her husband took her to A&E at another hospital. They knew immediately what was wrong. They operated to remove the tumour but it had spread to her liver and lymph glands and she died five months later.

I am sorry for your loss. I am 20, I dont have any pain, I only have a rumbling stomach and blood (though I dont see it now that I'm taking the suppositories).

There are lots of non sinister reasons for blood. We were told after our daughter died that there were only two cases of colon cancer in girls in the 16 to 23 age group that year. The other was a nurse in a Nottingham hospital.
