Missed Dose

Hi at the moment I am 'no how' due to the death of my sister on Friday, I've just come to take my tablets this morning and can't remeber taking yesterday's .  I always put my medication for the day into a pot and take various ones through the day, I can't remember taking any at all.   The most important ones are my 6 mg of pred.    Should I take extra today and if so by how much?   Appreciate any help as I just can't think straight and need guidance, obviously no doctors to ask today either.

thank you

I am sorry to read of your sister's death. I hope you have some support for you.

Yesterday has gone, forget the missed dose, don't take extra, especially if you aren't certain what you actually did.

Hi angel, I agree with Mrs Mop, I missed a day two weeks ago without any problems. I am so sorry to here about your sisters death and can understand that you do not know if you are coming or going. Good luck and best wishes. Dave (tavidu)

Thank you both, I had toyed with the idea of taking 9!mg as I thought the missed dose might affect me later in the week rather than straight away especially as stress can't worsen the symptoms. That way I would get some of the missed dose but not overdose if I have already taken the 6 yesterday.

does that sound a good plan?

That should say 'as stress CAN ' and 9 mg.  sorry heads a shed

It's pretty difficult to overdose on low dose pred! I think it was Lizzie Ellen who was reducing and thought how well it was going - until she realised she'd taken 2x 5mg tablets for 3 days in a row instead of 5+1!

But yes - that would work too and you could go back to your usual tomorrow.

Hi angel, as I said it did not cause me any problems. However if you feel in your own mind that you would be re assured by taking them go ahead for your own piece of mind, you have enough to cope with already. You can always reduce gradually and no doubt Eileen will be on to advise you.

      All the best, Dave

I'm sorry to hear that angelcake and of course you are all " no how".

Don't panic - if you still feel reasonably OK and not stiff, just take today's normal dose and see how the day goes. You are not at any risk from missing one low dose like that if you have done so. The worst thing that would have happened is you felt stiff again.

I used to take my pred as a double dose every other day - the antiinflammatory effect of pred lasts up to 36 hours for some people - and it was fine.

Do think about getting yourself a dosette box though - if you have one for a week you can see immediately if you missed yesterday's tablets.

And sit down with a nice cup of tea and remember the lovely things about your sister and hold on to them and enjoy the memories.

Thank you all I'm glad in a way I missed the dose it's so nice to have your good wishes.

she was only diagnosed 5 weeks ago with a brain tumour, she was 64.   Yes lots of lovely memories, just wish she could have come home for her final day.

    thank you again x

Oh what a shame - was she well until then? That's no age at all is it - and far too close to mine.

It will sound a strange thing to say maybe but I think with a brain tumour a short illness is better altogether - there are fewer upsetting things to remember and the good ones will be easier to catch hold of.

She had symptoms that once we knew about the tumour fitted, but she also had diabetes and we though her symtoms were because of that.  Eye problems for which she had lazer, she told them that she could see the eye chart but could think of the letter name, being forgetful but she hid it all well. Thank goodness no pain and your right it was much better to be a relatively short time..   Thank you all x

it was stage 4 aggressive and fast growing .

So sorry to hear you've lost your sister💐. The memories of her will remain in your heart forever.

Take care of yourself and don't worry about the pred.  I forgot to take my 10mg dose a couple of weeks ago and I was OK.  Eileen's suggestion of the weekly pill dispenser is a good idea though, especially with your mind in a fog.

      Hugs,  Diana🌸
