Misty eye after waking

Since the cataract operation in my left eye last October, it has been misty for about half an our after waking up in the morning, with halos around lights.  I am not sure if this is due to it being dry, and whether there is any long-term solution, other than using artificial tears ?  The contact lens practitioner said my other eye is also somewhat dry, but it suffers less from morning mistiness.

Every one's eyes are slightly different in the morning because of a lack of blinking as one sleeps. In your case, your vision degradation seems to be a little bit more than average. But, if using artificial tears or eye lubricant helps, that is good.

Also, there is no single brand of artificial tears or eye lubricant, which works best for everyone. You may need to figure out the one which works out best for your eyes by trying out more than one.

There is a  surgical procedure available to reduce eye dryness, but personally, I would not have that done for myself, when the use of eye drops 3-4 times a day controls  the dry-eye problem well for me.

The contact lens practicioner recommended holding a hot towel against my eyes for 3-5 minutes twice a day for a longer term solution - not sure if this is worth trying?

Using a hot towel against the eyes may help but that also will be a short term solution. You can also try an eyelid cleaner used once in the morning.

Thank you - I thought the hot towel probably would be a short term solution - artificial tear drops are actually quicker to do than several minutes with a hot towel !

The cataract surgeon advised me to try a soft contact lens in my right eye (between 11 and 15 diopters), as the cataract is in the early stages and doesn't really need to be removed yet.

I have had double vision with the lens, which seems to vary according to blinking (I don't get double vision with glasses). One contact lens specialist thinks it is an early cataract causing it, the other thinks it is dry eyes (!)

If a contact lens doesn't work, I can get the right eye cataract done in due course.

Hi- I've seen a number of posts from people who struggle with dry eyes. While I don't have any useful suggestions, I know there a lot of people who will. Good 😊 Luck to you
