Good Morning or afternoon/evening now where you live 😃

My symptoms were very similar to yours.

      My responses are in BOLD.

Anxiety - I've been Diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Panic attacks - had to go to the ER a couple of times

On edge most of the day - Still do

**My periods were heavy and clots (sorry TMI) until I got on the Mirena IUD. That and every other type of birth control made me worse. I had it removed a year later, as I couldn't take the uncontrollable mood swings, felt like I was going insane.

Now I notice my periods are lighter (maybe only one day that's heavy), they only last about 4 days versus the 6 days they USED to be. They are also now closer together, so instead of a 28-30 cycle, it's more like a 22-26 day cycle.

Bad sleep - Same, but I also have chronic pain from Fibromyalgia, so I literally could have 10+ hours of sleep (unrested) and wake up feeling exhausted.

Wake up early heart pounding - Yes same here, before I was put on Lorazepam (anxiety med). I don't recommend getting on this medication or any other Benzodiazepines . They are only meant for short term and are super addicting.

Dizzy feelings - At times, I still do, especially when I am bent down and come up too fast.

Allergies - I've always had seasonal allergies. Freshly mowed grass is the worse for me. Also household chemicals so I have to use more natural cleansers.

Can't handle the sun - I am ok with the sun. I'm darker skinned and was born and raised in Phoenix Arizona where the temps can almost reach 120 degrees F in the summer.

Get like a tight throat - For me not really Maybe at times when I'm tense or stressed.

Just doom feeling throughout the day - Yes, for me too, before I was put on the Lorazepam.

The thing is i have always had anxiety and panic since my twenties. I'm sorry to hear that. Mine didn't start until I had a traumatic event in 2012.

I am 48 now. I'm 42. I highly believe I started perimenopause when I was around 38. My mom started hers when she was 35. I've heard, we tend to follow our mother's footsteps when it comes to our periods and changes of life. Not 100% sure tho...

Was on citrapram 40 mg for yrs and it helped so much then one day out of blue i had a panic attack i was 46 then so went to drs and she said that the citrapram had stopped working but saying thst i was on a petiod at the time. This definitely sounds like it's a hormone issue and not a brain/psychie problem.

She switched me to sertraline but i didnt get on with that. I don't blame you. I was prescribed that too when I had to go to the ER and I took it for 3 days and it made me feel even more crazy. Not every medication works for everyone. Ugh....

So from 46 my life has gone down hill

i look older my skin looks dull and lifeless. - Same here. My life seemed to go downhill when I was around 37-38 and my skin, hair, and overall health is not good.

Dry skin - Same here, at times. Certain parts of my body like my legs and tummy area gets dry and itchy.

Dr said its my anxiety has come back she said i am prob peri menopausal but my anxiety is worse - Sounds like you're estrogen is low, but I'm not a Dr to confirm that. See, I'm the opposite. I have TOO much estrogen, which explains the crying spells, crying for no apparent reason

That's why she suggested mitazapine but not taken it. I can't tell you what to do with medications, if you should take them or not, but from my previous reply, it was NOT the medication for me. Again, what one med does for one person may be different for another.

I have fluxetine citrapram and mitazipine all in cupboard not touched it.

I'm on Fluoxetine for depression. Not sure it's helping.

Only thing i take is diazapam 2mg daily for the last two yrs. I've never tried it. Is that for anxiety? Sounds like it's in the same drug family as the Lorazepam - Benzos.

Had bloods done and all fine apart from chrilestrial which was 6. Mine too was SKY HIGH, especially after months of taking the Mirtazapine. Did you have your hormones checked? A traditional Dr may not be the best source to have them checked. You may need a natural Dr like a Hormone specialist, naturopath or Functional medicine Dr to check, as they tend to check more panels.

My life is so bad now. :( I'm sorry. Don't give up. You'll find something to help you.

My friend who is similar but younger her dr put her on mirena coil fitted and citrapram and eastrogen gel to rub on arm and she is happy again.

That's good to hear. All bodies are different and react to medications differently. You have to find what works for your body. It's very frustrating, but you gotta keep trying. I've been trying for over 7 years.

i asked gp this but she said my anxiety is the first thing to tackle as its effecting my life soo much. The thing is that GP's are traditional medicine Dr's and they are too quick to prescribe meds. At least here in the US, they do. I really feel yours is hormone imbalance related but I could be wrong.

And cause my sleep was so bad she offered me mitazipine. That's what my Dr did too because my sleep sucked!

Just dont know what to do anymore xxxx - I know the feeling. You're not alone. From my previous reply, I HIGHLY recommend seeing a Dr who specializes in Hormones. GP's don't and neither do Psychiatrists.

      **Other symptoms I have are:

-Gut issues (possibly SIBO, IBS, constipation).

-Fibromyalgia and all the symptoms of that

-Major Depressive Disorder - most likely from the imbalance of hormones.

-Crying spells (like a dark cloud over my head), crying for no apparent reason. ESPECIALLY before my period starts and my mid cycle.

      -Sex drive - GONE !

      -Vaginal dryness

      -Palpitations

      -Herniated disks

      -Chronic headaches

-Muscle aches, stiffness, pain, and tension (could be from the Fibro)

-Brainfog (Most likely from the Fibro)

      -Food intolerances

**I'm sure I have more. I just can't think of anymore right now.

      **

Yes i had the Mirena IUD. At first it was ok. But it eventually stopped my periods, which I think it totally unatural. Anyways, after about 6 months or so, it started to make me feel like I was going bonkers. My anxiety increased, I was in a deep dark depressive pit, crying all the time. I was a mess. I desperately wanted it removed. I couldn't go back to the OB/Gyn who inserted it in me because she had moved to another state so I went to a new OB/Gyn, who refused to take it out. I left her office in tears. I went to my GP/PCP who also does Women's health and after begging her to please remove the IUD, she did. It took some time to start recovering and get my periods back. But after that, I never went on ANY type of Birth control again!

All your symptoms-- Your unpredictable periods, feeling inbalanced when you walk, awful doom feelings, anxiety, constantly on edge, IBS, being bloated, not being able to catch your breath ALL sound hormonal.

If you can find a way to see a hormone specialist, that would be best.

It's my pleasure to help you out. I have great empathy for those who suffer like I do. Even though I'm not a Dr, I just tell others what I've experienced and what could " possibly " be the underlying issue to their symptoms, especially if I have/had similar symptoms. I don’t have all the answers , But am happy to help in any way I can. xxx 😃

I hope you can find relief soon. ♡♥♡

Oh forgot to answer your question about HRT. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure if I am on HRT. The hormone specialist I just started seeing put me on a Progesterone pill that you can take orally or vaginally (I know, sounds weird inserting a pill there). Lol! But i have a follow up appointment with her next Monday so I will ask her if this is HRT she put me on and I’ll let you know. All I know is since I’ve been taking the Progesterone and Metformin, which has been only about 3 weeks, my moods have been better . I pray it continues that way.

Hi Victoria. I too was in your same shoes. I've been going thru Perimenopause for the last few years and have also been on different antidepressants, anti-anxiety, and now a mood stabilizer. I'm also seeing a counselor/therapist. Unfortunately, all of these are barely doing its job to get my moods stabilized, the "out of no where" crying spells, and the anxiety and tension that I go thru almost daily.

Well, I got fed up and went to see a Dr who specializes in hormones. She ran blood tests and confirmed I am in perimenopause. So now I'm on hormones and because I have blood sugar/insulin issues (almost pre-diabetic), I am also on Metformin to stablize those issues, as the imbalance of hormones correalates with the imbalance of blood sugar issues.

As for the Mirtazapine that I was on for about 6-7 months- It made me feel HORRIBLE. Yeah sure it helped me sleep and calm my anxiety and nerves down, but I was a Zombie during waking hours, gained about 25 US Pounds, gave me so much brain fog, and I recently had blood tests ran and my chloresterol was thru the roof!!! So now I'm trying to get that under control. So, not to scare you but I highly recommend you get to the underlying issue which may be your hormones and not get on psych meds as a bandaid. Just my two cents ... if you want to chat more, I'm here, send me a msg. 😃

Yes, your blood sugar can be tested through a blood test. This might be something you ask for if you decide to get your hormones checked. So sorry you're going thru this, like most of us women our age are going thru. I'm not a Dr, but from all that you're telling me, it really sounds like a hormonal imbalance.

PS - I replied to your other message about symptoms, but it's being moderated right now, so hopefully it gets approved to post.

I'm not sure if HRT would help you. A hormone specialist would know. I didn't realize you are unemployed. I'm sorry to hear that.

You are correct that a lack of estrogen can cause anxiety. I have the opposite. I'm estrogen dominant (TOO much estrogen), which is why I feel more depression than anxiety. A traditional Dr or GP will say that a blood test is pointless. I wish you could find a way to see a hormone specialist. Maybe a family member or good friend can lend you some money??
