Mixed Bag.....I really need some advice!

I am shocked at the results of a recent round of tests for my spine - had an MRI , X-rays and Nuclear Bone Scan and Bone Density scan and I am waiting for the consultation for a decision to be made about what can be done to help....

The Reports say I have;

Degenerative arthritis L5/S1 with disc bulge (this is causing the most pain currently).

sub acute wedge fractures - L1 +L2 +T10 +T11 (vertebral collapse)

End plate degenerative Changes in T7/8 T8/9.

And Smorl's Nodes - whatever they are and something called Modic type 1 in places

My Dexa scan was unremarkable and not showing any osteoarthritis - brilliant for my age over 70 ! So why these fractures if not osteoporotic in nature and without trauma?

In 1987 I had a disc removed from L4/5 and have had problems ever since but I have managed my life mainly with pain meds and in last 10 years, steroid injections and 3 years ago a Denervation - which cauterised the pain receptor nerves loer lumbar area - that was very successful and lasted over 3 years....but probably not a good idea if it hid a lot of underlying problems that only manifest when pain is present....

I had a TKR which didn't help the spine as I was walking out of kilter for a good 9 months but all good with knee now...thanks goodness something went right....

If anyone can throw any light on this for me I would much appreciate to know as much as I can so I have a prepared list of questions to ask before my next consultation....

Thanks in advance

    I want to start by saying that I am really sorry you're having so many issues. I can relate. I have had degenerative disc disease and a bulging disc in the same place as you do for 15 years. and then exactly one year ago I had a bone density test done that said the only thing I had was osteopenia which is what my last one said too. Than four months later I had 5 fractured vertebrae. in all of 2018 I fractured a total of eight bones and one of those bones was broken in three places. I had five fractured vertebrae, two fractured ribs and one ankle that was fractured in three places. And the bone density test told me I didn't have osteoporosis. it's been 1 year since my bone density scan and my doctor wants me to have another one done. I live in the US we pay for our bone scans with money out of our pockets or insurance will cover it or a portion of it. I am resentful for having to pay for it a year ago when it was wrong why would I want to spend money again to another one done that I can't count on the results being right?

    Prolia (Denosumab) is what you'll need to ask for. I was told by my doctor that this drug is different from all the other osteoporosis drugs because it actually helps the bones regenerate. All the other osteoporosis drugs on the market stop it from progressing.

    I know this is my second post but I wanted to do it that way . I just wanted to tell you that if anyone offers you kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty I would like you to private message me so I can tell you my experience with kyphoplasty. I had a very bad thing happen due to the surgery.
