Mixing Celexa and weed reaction

Posted , 5 users are following.

About two months ago I smoked pot while just starting Celexa (and another medication for schizophrenia) well right after I started to hyperventilate and felt light headed and had troubles breathing and couldn't think. After a couple hours I felt better except I couldn't think very well. I can't understand when people talk or I can't understand when I read and this is still going on after two months. I feel really stupid when I talk to people because my brain won't make sense in what they are saying. Even when I talk I don't make sense sometimes. I've been to the doctors and one said there's nothing he can do and another said it made my schizophrenia worse. But I don't think not being able to think is a symptom of schizophrenia so that doesn't make sense. Can anyone help?

Maybe its just some voices you can't understand. Gravitate toward the voices you understand

Sorry about your situation amanda, sounds terrible.

I also had a bad reaction to Citalopram/Celexa and im trying to find out why.

I dont know if smoking weed has done this, ive heard that smoking weed while taking these meds just increases the side effects. But im no expert and not sure why this has happened to you.

Are you still taking the meds? Are you still smoking weed? I have heard smoking pot can make certain conditions worse.

Have your thoughts not improved at all over the last two months? I had a bad reaction to the same medication you took and it was also two months ago...i have noticed slight improvements to my condition but it seems very slow.

I am sure it will get better but i think maybe try not to smoke and maybe its just the meds kicking in.

It does suck that the doctors wont help. I have the same problem. I advise you keep going back to your doctor, insist for new tests or help from a specialist regarding this issue and they will have to help.

Hey thank you so much for your reply! smile I'm no longer taking the Celexa and I stopped smoking weed. I admit it has improved slightly but it's still pretty bad like I feel like I can't even work because this is happening. Before I couldn't understand anything I read but now I can understand a little bit with some things.

      Really what happened to you?

Ya I'm planning on going back to the walk in clinic if this continues to happen after 3 months. Thanks I hope it does gets better.

I appreciate you commenting thanks again!

    Hi Amanda,

As much as I like the odd 'smoke' or 'cake' I totally abstained when prescribed Celexa (or Citalopram as it is called here in the UK), alcohol which then led me to think I should try to help in my own recovery some more so, I gave up meat and junk and processed food.  Okay, to some this may souond totally boring, but I can assure them, as you, that it did help my body to become healthier and fitter and the buzz I got from that was far better and natural then anything else.

Therefore, get yourself sorted with the meds so you know what you need and where you are then try to get to a level where you are happy and then review your whole situation.  When you can do this without any added extras (if you know what I mean), then partake if you know it is safe, but with anything we put into our bodies, why do it if it ain't gonna help! A quick fix or momentary escapism does not help either.

Keep posting, keep reading and hope you settle soon.

    Regards,

    David
