Has anyone had a Hip replacement who also gave cp I'm do g really well with No pain but I can't walk without crutches except a half dozen steps of the morning. My balance is awful without them
I am really getting down about my mobility as i want to be able to do more. I haven't even left the house yet and I'm 6 weeks gone. Im really downhearted by it.to make matters worse work is asking when lll be back. Im a teaching assistant.all in all I have been off for 11 weeks firstly due to a fall then my op . I have an appt to see my surgeon on Monday and my 1st physio Tuesday that I had to push hard for. I haven't a clue how I'm going to get out of my house even though I only have 1 step it is mighty steep and lands on a slanted path.i can see me landing on my face 😟😟😟

I did try to reply a few minutes ago but failed which is the reason for that test post!
Sounds as if you are having a frustrating time. How have you been doing with your exercises and can you support your full weight OK on your operated side without the crutches or do your muscles complain?
Can you ask a friend or a neighbour to be with you when you practice that step.
Good luck

Blooming computer's! I have my partner who helps me and I can weight bare without crutches for a few seconds but yes the muscles complain . I have done something to my groin muscle during bed exercises as I can't do them now and I could yesterday. Im going to miss them out tonight and start again tomorrow to give them a rest. I am incredibly frustrated!

Dear Angela
I wish I had someone to sort out y computer problems but I'm quite used to sorting out most problem.
It's good that you have someone to help with your hip recovery as you do not need to fall down that step!
Cheers Richard

Hi Angela, I have MS and use a wheelchair. I fell and broke my femur so they gave me a hemiarthroplasty. Like you, worried about exercise regime. What part of hip did you break. Are you seeing a physio or relying on overstretched NHS? Let me know what exercises you're doing. Good luck.

I didn't break my hip I had arthritis due to my other side over compensating for the cp . Surgeon said my hip was 'mangled !

Hi Carol, I waited 7 years till the doctor said it was bad enough ! Ha! I was a right crippled mess for years and couldn't live life! Luckily for me I was sent to Nuffield Oxford and it was first class. I had to source my own physio as after 6 weeks I hadn't heard anything from anyone. I felt abandoned. Im only doing the exercises in the little book as that's all I was taught. I haven't been out the house as I wasn't taught stairs again im lucky I have a bungalow but I have a sloping stair at the front. You are in a terrible position as your condition is worse than mine. I hope your not having too a bad time of it. 8 had a total replacement as my hip was ''mince ! Haha

It's good that you had the THR as that will last longer than my op. My op. will erode cartilage eventually so I'll end up with osteoarthritis when this happens. Think they assumed I'd die before that happened but no one consulted me as to how much exercise I do. I do a lot on treadmill so I'm really angry. Your problem will be trying to exercise enough to keep muscle tight. You certainly will need physio. I have noticed on this site that posts from NHS patients are very different. People abroad talk about all their check ups and Physios and discussions with surgeons. Like you I was on a waiting list for everything and some things never happened at all. Feeling abandoned is pretty common. I have groin pain and am getting a steroid injection next week. At least your op. should have reduced your pain. Hope it has. Good luck.
