Modified DSNS

As most of us do, I would like to start trying to taper my prednisone dosage. I understand and appreciate the value of the DSNS regimen but am looking to try to shorten the process somewhat.

I am thinking of starting at 1 day new and 4 days old and then stopping at

1 day old and 4 days new.

I am aware that everyone is different but was wondering if anyone has had success with this scheme or something similar to this.

Thanks

Coming late,  there is another one also called

    Tortoise and Hare.

Both DSNS and TAH have been distributed free of charge to over 500 people, to date we have been told by many that one or other have worked.

When sent on request, we always say.........discuss these plans with your medical people.

Many people have tweaked them as we are all different, different backgrounds, age, past and present health problems.

They were devised from Ragnar's initial plan and please remember, what works for one does not work for everybody.

This statement can be verified by going to the PMR GCAuk North East website and reading the latest information on plans by a leading Researcher specifically for PMR & GCA.

    Hope this helps....................

Curious if anyone has tried reducing their dose by .5mg or 1mg on an every other day basis for a week or two. Then, if feeling OK, sticking with the new lower dose on an every day basis for a week or two and then starting over with every other day with a new lower dose etc.

A lot of people have in the past but I doubt they are about on the forum now. It is a good idea to stick at the new dose for at least 2 or 3 weeks to be sure it is still enough to manage the inflammation.

But it comes down to the same thing - the DSNS isn't written in stone, you have to try and find what works for you. There are people who tried alternating the old/new dose immediately but it was too much of a step.

Question EileenH, when reducing using DSNS, should you stay on new dose for 2 weeks or can you start the new cycle?

I say in the blurb with it that while a rest to be sure you are still OK is perhps better there is no reason not to continue with the next step, certainly at the higher doses. You are going so slowly you should notice immediately if it isn't enough - and the slowness seems to be the secret of NOT having problems.

I am going to try DSNS 3-1 from 20 to 18 currently 15 am 5 at bed time, reducing 1 mg am & 1 PM and see how I feel. Proceed from from there listening to my body.
