I had one treatments and it was nothing like what they said it would be. I was told that it would be virtually painless and I could return to normal activities. I had a lot of pain during the treatment, especially on the outside. I was down for 4 days with ice between my legs. I couldn't wear tight cloths so I went around in PJs. The burning finally let up, but I got a bladder infection a couple weeks later. I haven't had a bladder infection in years. Also, started having some light uncontrolled incontinence. It is time to take the treatment again, but I called it off. I called the doctors office and the nurse said out of 150 people, I am the only one who felt pain. The doctor never called me back. So end of story, I don't know what to believe. I have a strong tolerance for pain. I have had biopsies, broken bones, breast cancer and chemo. The pain from this treatment was one of the worst I have experienced. I'm done with it for now. I have looked all over online, and most of the information says that it is painless. Until I find out what happened, I won't do it again.

I understand your frustration. I have been with my doctor since I was 17 yrs old. Im only 57 and had a hysterectomy at the age of 30. I've always had a lot of trust in him. I had the 3-treatments and if I had it to due over again I would not do it, wasted $1800.00. I was was in devastated for over 1 1/2 years do to the pain I was having. I asked my doctor why he never offered me hormone replacement, he said due to my family history of cancer. He gave me a scrip to start taking (I was hesitant to start it). I decided to go more natural way instead of chemical. I went to Allure Medical Spa and had blood testing done, my hormone/testosterone levels where in the negatives. I decided to go with with their plan. Their treatment is not covered by insurance, but at this point I did not care. Within 3 weeks my pain was gone, my drive is like when I was 21 and no dryness. My life back to normal.

I'm so glad you got help. I had breast cancer at 45 and the doctors have never allowed me to have hormone treatments. Thus, out of desperation, I tried the laser. It was a really bad experience and I was afraid to go back. I'm so glad you have a normal life again.

Hi Lisa, I have gone back to the beginning of this thread to review as there is so much info on it. I was originally interested in the ML as my "ace in the hole", so to speak! Now, not so much. I googled that spa and it sounds more like a beauty treatment rather than natural medicine business. I have had my blood hormone levels tested in the past by doctor's orders. Did your doctor never order any? At the time my levels were OK.
How is the spa treating you? What are considered natural hormones... do you mean yam cream and that sort of thing?
You are very lucky to have had the same doctor for 40 years! I have had so many retire it's getting pretty frustrating as there is no continuity. My latest gyno is not recommending ML. I have just started estradiol compounded cream as the Estrace was $300 a tube! My useless Medicare HMO insurance does not cover it. The compounded one was around $80.
Are you still going to the spa or continuing to use whatever they recommended for you? I am very uncertain as how to proceed. This doctor says I have LS (went because of itch). Been 3 years since I saw a doctor. Last diagnosis was AV only. Have been avoiding hormones, but felt I had no choice now.
Would like to hear how the treatments worked for you 4 months on. Thanks.

I had my first ML treatment on Friday, 11/15/19, and it was about 3 minutes for the entire treatment and I have not had any issues thus far. I'm praying it remain that way. it was painless as it felt like a vibrator internally and externally it felt like a light volt but painless. Did your pain start immediately after the treatment or over time?

Hi Jean,
I have been avoiding both hormones and the ML for several years now in the hopes the atrophy might not get any worse and it didn't appear to until now. For the past six months I have what feels like an on and off (mostly off) mild infection, but it's become more on so will be seeing a gynecologist at the end of May. Three years ago hormone cream was prescribed, but my sister had estrogen dependent breast cancer (which she died from a year and a half ago) so I wasn't very receptive to using it. Needless to say my sister may me promise not to use it.
I've been following discussions about the Mona Lisa which at first sounded like a miracle cure. Now maybe not so much. Seems either way you have to keep using the hormones or having repeated ML treatments with the latter getting very costly out of pocket. Has the price gone down any?

When you go in tomorrow, could you PLEASE ask what the billing code is for the Mona Lisa procedure. My Dr. said it a billing code had not been approved ( 6 months ago) and therefore it could not be billed to insurance. If there is a code you could get, you could save many people thousands of dollars !!! My treatments are still $500@ and the price hasn't gone up in a couple years since I started getting these.

hi Mimmmie,
I have my first ML this Friday the 15th and my doctor told me my insurance covered mine as well but I have a $25 copays. however, I'm afraid to proceed with the surgery due to all the negative comments. I having issues with vaginal dryness due to a hysterectomy when I was 32. How long was your procedure? what issues have you experienced? If you don't mind, why were you recommended the ML?

I find it interesting & encouraging that more insurance companies are now covering the laser procedure. I don't think it's just a matter of it having a billing code, it is a matter of what the insurance company you have covers for procedure and medications. For instance there are meds in different tiers. One plan will have something in a tier that is less expensive than another plan does.
Because of aging baby boomers, atrophy is probably becoming more prevalent. Not only because there are more of us, but because boomer females are more demanding of proper care. Keep it up, ladies!

So I had my first ML treatment on Friday the 15th and it was literally 3 minutes. I have not had any issues this far. My second treatment is scheduled for Dec 27th. Also, I did not have to pay anything as my insurance covered it all. Did you experience any difficulties after your 2nd and 3rd treatment?

I have not had any ML treatments. My gyn advised against it when I brought it up a year and a half ago. She said she was not impressed with it as it can cause problems if done on thin menopausal skin.
The original post in this thread was 3 years ago. At that time very few women were reporting that insurance was covering it unless they had tried everything available and nothing worked.
Did you have it done for atrophy, urinary problems, LS?
Are you in the US?
