Monitoring progress

Hi everyone, Since Thursday I have been monitoring my VA symptoms, the soreness and the wanting to wee all the time.

I have been continuing with the Vagifem, taking 3 Cranberry tablets every day with meals, drinking more water and using the Vit E Oil.

Over all, I have been doing better. Noticed I've not wanted to wee as much or as often and the soreness so far has been less too, though of course its early days yet.

I did get the feeling of wanting to wee a bit more on Saturday but having said that, the feeling wasn't as strong or as uncomfortable. So I'm hoping that was a step in the right direction too.

Goodness knows what this week will bring! I hope it will bring another few good days.

Two weeks on Saturday I am off up to Scotland for a week with hubby and son in the car so I hope I don't have too many problems with the VA that week and wanting to wee all the time.

Time will tell anyway. Hope you are all doing ok. :-)

I am so glad you have gotten some relief.  I use Vagifem and Vitamin E also - just started with the Vitamin E.  Instead of taking cranberry I take D-Mannose capsules.  It is the same thing basically and was recommended by two different physicians here.  I seem to go in and out of discomfort....I will have some pretty good days then I seem to relapse.  A few days of discomfort then a few where I am doing better.  I just tell myself that I am healing inside and I need to not stress and remain patient.  When I am sitting I don't get as much discomfort so riding in the car is generally not as bad for me.  Regardless, I am glad you are seeing some improvement!  Enjoy your trip and don't stress!

Hi Pat, Thanks for your message. Yes I have gotten some relief although I must admit that since the AV started almost a year ago I have been like you. I seem to have gone in and out of discomfort. I have had fairly good days but then I will relapse for a couple of days. So far, since last Thursday I have done reasonably ok. Not perfect but a bit better. Today has been ok too. I think I will have to do like you are doing and remain patient and tell myself I am healing inside etc. Must admit I can be comfortable sitting too so hopefully the trip to Scotland won't be too bad, as long as I don't have the feeling I want to wee all the time. Yes I am seeing some improvement thanks. So hopefully I will enjoy the holiday in a couple of weeks. :-)

I have gotten them at the health food store here; it is called Fruitful Yield.  But I would think that if you can find cranberry capsules the same store might have the D-Mannose.  Like the sugar in cranberry, (I found the following definition for what it is on-line ..."D-mannose is a naturally occurring simple sugar, closely related (in chemical terms, a “stereoisomer”) to glucose. Small amounts of D-mannose are metabolized by our bodies; more than small amounts are excreted promptly into the urine. D-mannose is naturally occurring, many of you may have guessed that cranberry juice (as well as pineapple juice) contain more D-mannose than most other foods. However, the amounts found in these juices are substantially less than in the ½ teaspoon (approximately 1 gram) adult dose, and are substantially less effective." When we get urinary tract infections it is normally from e-coli.  The e-coli sticks to the sugar in the d-mannose and just gets washed out of the body when we urinate.  The urologist that I saw told me to take 500 to 1000 mg like I would take a vitamin....so I take 500 mg in the morning along with my probiotic and multi vitamin.  I was assured that it won't hurt you and it will help prevent UTI's.  At least this way I feel more secure that I DON'T have a UTI and that I am dealing with VA.  Not knowing what I needed to treat was driving me crazy.  Now I don't go to the doctor repeatedly to be checked for a UTI.  If you can't find it in any stores, you can buy it on-line.  If you get just powder, you can just put a teaspoon in a glass of water or use it to sweeten coffee or tea.  It is not unpleasant ... just tastes midly sweet.  I use the capsules because they are convenient.  But I buy the powder if the store runs out of capsules.

One other thing that I do is to wear lose clothes as much as possible and go without panties whenever it is feasible.  Obviously it is not possible if you are using Vitamin E or coconut oil - you need to protect your clothes.  But many nights or when I am at home I just let as much air as possible circulate on my body.  I wish you a very good trip to Scotland!  Think positive!

Hi Pat, Thanks for that. Yes it struck me recently not to wear tight clothes. And if I'm not using Vit E oil I could try not wearing panties too. Another reason for not wearing tight jeans/trousers etc is to make my hip more comfortable. I've got a new hip and tight jeans seem to pull on the op site. So that's two good reasons to wear loose clothes as much as I can and only wear jeans etc if I go out. Thank you. I am sure I will enjoy Scotland. I go on June 20th just for a week. Will report back here when I get back. Here's to thinking positive! :-)
