Mono and Digestive Issues - 10 Months

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi all,

I've had mono for 10 months, and digestive issues for the majority of that time — constipation, acid reflux, abdominal and back pain, etc.

Anyone experience these symptoms and recover from it? I've seen a lot of articles online about mono triggering long-term digestive and autoimmune diseases, and I'm getting scared that my body is never going to get back to normal.

Thanks.

I’d be very interested in anyone’s answer to mrw’s question for I’ve had exactly the same issues at the same time frame also. Seems to be the only thing I still surfer from is recurrent digestive problems. I’ve been taking probiotics and vitamins and at times it gets better then right back to acid reflux abdominal discomfort and diarrhea.

      Hi nathan05,

I've been taking probiotics and vitamins as well — are there any in particular that you feel made a difference? I take betaine HCL, digestive enzymes, a multi-strain probiotic, and tons of vitamins, but nothing has eliminated the problem yet. I'm about to try zinc carnosine, because I've read some good things online.

    Hi Mrw,

Really sympathise with you having gone through glandular fever for a similar length of time, it was about 10 months or so that I started to see a turning point so really hoping and praying that will be the case for you too. I remember having lots of weird upper abdominal pains, that makes sense because there's lots of glands up there and the spleen is there too with all the glands and stuff. I had all sorts of joint achies and weird pains and sensations across the body too.

Just want to reassure you that all these symptoms do pass and that you will still make a full recovery. I was feeling so down and discouraged after that length of time because nothing had really changed, but then things took a big step forward in a short space of time, albeit it still took some time for full recovery, but life became more bearable again. That will happen for you too, I really truly believe that - hang in there and trust God!

    Thinking about you,

    Hi Mrw,

Well I got mono last year on 16th of november, I didn't really have terrible digestive issues, UNTIL...the end of july 2017, since then my stools have been pale, I have digestive issues, I don't literally assimilate fats, I've had pains and periods of diarrhea followed by constipation...I went for a CT scan but they didn't find anything wrong with my gallbladder or my liver, I was more concerned about my pancreas because my pain was on the right side of my abdomen specially after a fatty meal, unfortunately they didn't give me any answer regarding my pancreas, since CT scans are so risky I don't want to go for more checkups, I might go for some MRI or Ultrasound...I've lost lots of weight, Can't put on any!

I'm going to visit my doc in a few days,so it's been practically 7 months of not being able to digest well, I'm not taking any digestive enzymes, as for I first wanna know what's causing me all this...i'm more concerned that it's chronic pancreatitis in my case, I red somewhere that EBV can cause CP too...so becareful and don't go heavy on carbs or fats! be gentle and find ou what is causing you this problem before it's too late.

      Hey Nicky,

It's nice to hear from you and just so sorry you're still having such a rough time. I do still believe you're going to get better, hang in there, it's so tough to have digestive issues and weight loss. Remember there is still hope today, God is still there and just hoping He brings peace and good health this year for you Nicky.

Still been a tough time for me too, I've been in awful pain with my back and just so lost about it all at the moment. Really hoping this will be a better year for us all!

      Take care

Thanks Nicky, really appreciate your support and kind words, hoping this can be the year of recovery for us all. Believing that in Jesus' wonderful and forgiving and healing name!!

I know it's been so tough for you Nicky, just need to take it one day at a time, that's all I can do at the moment as everything else is just overwhelming.

I've been ill after mono for 1 year and 3 months and also have some digestive problems, my stools change color every few weeks or so, from very pale-yellow to deep brown and have bloating and reflux. I've tried probiotics and supplements, but no change. I also have some assimilation problems I guess, since I've lost a lot of weight, from 85Kg to 62Kg and remained at about 62 ever since, with slight variations. I eat whenever I am hungry but can't put on weight. In the past I would put on weight despite exercising and skipping meals. Losing weight not on purpose is really bad, it means sickness, at least for me it does.

Hi there.. I feel that we are having intolerance/sensitivity to certain food items. But I think if we can cut down certain food items, it might stop progressing to diseases. Its better to take a food intolerance test, so that you can find out if you have any. Remember, not to give up.

Best advice for sure not to give up Nicky. It's easy to say, especially because I know so many folks on the forum here are tired, weak and weary. Remember when you're not feeling strong enough to feel hopeful or believe there is light at the end of the tunnel, others on the forum here believe it for you and can see it coming in your direction - so fear not and hang in there, each day as it comes.
