Mono need help

Hi so In June I woke up one morning feeling very weak. I thought I needed to eat something but when I ate breakfast I still felt weird. I ended up having my first panic attack. My entire summer was filled with ER visits for weakness, low energy, fatigue, dizziness, off balance feeling, and generally feeling unwell. It turns out I have mono (diagnosed a week ago). I don't know what to do. Just looking for others' stories and well and recovery process. It's my 3rd month and I just feel so helpless. ?? Thanks guys ! Blessing to all

Hi Craig and Mono, thank you for the replies ! I guess it's just so discouraging when you think you're in the clear with a symptom and it comes back sad

I know Christy it's so easy to become discouraged and feel hopeless when you feel it's 2 steps forward and 3 back sometimes. It's not always going to be that way Christy, that is for sure and this is going to be your year when things really start to move forward again - hang in there and just take it day at a time, can't cope on any other basis. Thinking of you.

Really trying not to be negative. I often tell myself that school will get better , Ill be able to have fun and enjoy my last year of school , and I’ll feel better. But it’s been 7months with this virus and 3 months that I’ve been back in school and there’s no relief. I feel like at this point it’s so bad there’s no bouncing back from this

      Hey Christy,

You're doing all the right things, you really are and you should give yourself a pat on the back for that because I know how hard and tough it is to do that when feeling that way. I'm having some issues with thinking negatively at the moment too, and just reading and hearing about others and how they are trying with it helps me too. Thinking about you today Christy!

    Hey guys,

I am now on week 10.  For those of you who may not be familiar with my story, I tested positive for  previous or possibly recent EBV infection (tests were inconclusive because I was negative for the acute marker and the past infection market that shows up after several months was also negative. So doctor said might be EBV might be a virus similar to it).

ANYWAYS. After 10 weeks my body still feels very fluey and achey.. I feel short of breath at times and just fatigued (though it has lessened, it is lingering and affecting me greatly). I noticed that my toes and fingers are stiff and achey. Has anyone had a similar experience? My headaches and chest pains / squeezing feeling in chest is gone thankfully.

    Thanks!

      Hey Van,

It's such a frustrating virus it really is, it's hard for me to remember exactly as it was a number of years ago since I had the virus but I do recall that the first 3 months in particular were awful, I just felt achey and pains everywhere and totally drained and fatigued with this low grade fever.

Gradually the intensity of this lessened after that period, so this is by far the worst period you are in right now just want to reassure you that you won't have to go through anything worse and things will get better from here - it might still take some time for full recovery so don't panic if that is the case (frustrating as it is), but just remember full recovery most definitely WILL come - I definitely believe in your recovery Van because of Jesus' healing power today.

Hey guys!  So the flu season is rampant in the US right now.  There's been a lot of adult deaths and that's terrifying, especially having a compromised immune system right now.  Has anyone gotten the flu shot?  I'm so torn on whether to get it or not.  I don't want to catch the flu but I don't want to make myself sick with the shot.

It's been a long time since I've had the flu vaccination, it's a difficult one I know because you want to protect yourself when your immune system is already battered up with mono, but then you hear these stories of the vaccination causing flu in people too - it's a difficult decision and I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, I think some people it's right for and others maybe not so but it's frustrating because you don't know which category you would be in until you got it sad

      Hi Lisa,

I don't live in the US but I got the flu shot back in November. Just like you, I was worried about my immune system but I also remember being terribly sick with the flu a few years back (lost 5 kg/10 pounds in one week!) and I was way too afraid of going through that again while having mono (had it since February 2017). So I asked my doctor, he did a blood test, told me I'm fine and gave me the shot and it wasn't a big deal indeed, nothing happened.

      Hi Lisa,

i got the flu shot, ( in the uk) and I seem fine. I got it back in October as the thought of having flu didn't appeal!!!

Hi everyone quick question for all. Has anyone had a glass of wine or smoked cannabis while going thru mono ? Not trying to tell on myself lol but i am a young adult and have gone 7 months without anything and i don't mind it. But i was having a good day and was hanging with some mates. I smoked for the first time tonight in  months and it sent me into the worse anxiety of my life omgg, This never happened prior to mono.  let me know if you guys ever had an experience like this or if you've had the common sense not to even try it haha

      Hi Christy,

Hoping you are feeling okay today and still want you to know I'm still believing you will get better - hang in there. I'm not a drinker or smoker so not really had much experience of that. I would certainly stay away from cannabis if you are able to as although I know it can give you a good effect at the time, I do believe it can also add to the anxiety and brain fog etc in the longer run. Probably best to stay away from alcohol too whilst recovery, but I do understand you just want to live your normal life again - that will come when your body feels strong enough to have a glass or two if you feel up to it.

Don't worry about this though, just keep trying to do the right things to help yourself and everything will be okay, there's no harm done with what you did, just something to be wary of and best to try and keep with healthier stuff for sure.

Hi Christy. I tried taking cbd mints in the beginning to help me sleep.

And the last few months I’ve definitely had a glass of red wine a few times a week because it helps with anxiety.  I don’t seem to feel better or worse with it the next morning.  Although I’m now in a bit of a relapse so I’m going to stop for awhile.

I wish I knew exactly what triggers it getting worse. It’s so frustrating.

Hi Craig, Yea I've smoked cannabis occasionally before mono and last night was awful ! It did make the anxiety and brain fog worse. Definitely will stay away. Too many cons than pros. Thank you always for the positive  words and telling me I'll get better no matter the circumstance is!! Bless you

That's wise to stay away from it I would say Christy, don't worry about it though remember you ARE gonna get better no matter what!!!
