Monofocal iol set for near vision

Hello all, I would like to ask something to people who had theirs monofocal iol set for near vision. Actually two questions:

1) wearing glasses for far vision, can you see well even close? I mean, can you read a text wearing far-glasses or you must put them off in order to read a book?

2) how far can you see decently (without too much blurry)?

I have a mono vision lens set for near distance. I wear a distance contact lens while I await a distance lens for

The cataract in that eye. I can read anything but very fine print. I don't see really well for distance but that is because of the cataract.

I have a near mono and love it. I can drive safely without glasses. I can watch tv and see the clock. I cannot wear my glasses (far vision) and read. I have to take them off or get a bifocal. I love having it as near vision

      Thank you, victoria!

Did you have astigmatism before the operation? I know people who has far-vision monofocal and they cannot read wthout glasses and people with near-vision monofocal who can drive without them. What's your experience with that?

I have a slight  astigmatism. I was near sighted before I developed presbyopia and cataracts. I rarely use my distance glasses. I use them at church to view the monitor if I need to read what's there. For pictures, not so much. More for detail.

Why do you think is better have a near-monofocal rather than distance?

I don't think it's better for everyone, but it is for me. I do more upclose things and would rather not wear my glasses for them. My vision is good enough I don't need my glasses for a lot of things. If I didn't do so much upclose, computer and reading, mostly, I may not feel this way.

My surgeon told me I will see without glasses only to read book but I will need them to see my PC and far away. But I read that people can see well a book till 100 cm or even further. So I guess the depth of focus is pretty wide, isnt it?

My Dr told me he was setting it for mid-range, and by that he meant things about as far as my lower arm in distance.  But to me it's perfect. Tell your Dr what you want to accomplish. I told my Dr. He wasn't in favor of it at first but when I explained what I wanted he was fine with it.

I am nearsighted and astigmatic so my far vision has always been bad and wearing glasses. Am wondering how do you see with a monofocal lens inside the eye. Is your vision "natural" compared to before the operation? Perception of colors, vision with dim lights, night vision? The eye cannot focus anymore like before but if the depth of vision is acceptable at around 1 meter from your nose, I think this is a perfect result. Your far vision may be not perfect but you said you can drive without glasses so it means your far vision is not that bad at all.

Yes, my vision is natural. No problems with color and I've always had a bit of depth perception problems. I don't know about meters but I see perfectly fine at an arms length distance. What I did to see how I'd like this was to go to the Dollar Store and by a pair of readers. Since my left eye is messed up from other issues, I pushed out the lens in the left eye and wore the readers all the time. I did fine and told that to the Dr.

So can you read books, newspaper, working on PC and see products on shop shelf without looking for glasses?

And how is going around in shop without glasses? Can you recognize people's faces or it's very blurry?

Sorry for my many questions, it's precious for me to hear your experience before I undergo cataract surgery. smile smile smile

No problem. Yes, I can see quite well. Yes, faces are recognizable Only things like road name signs are hard to read until closer, but not real bad. I suggest trying readers to see how it goes. That's what helped me decide. You can find the strength you are comfortable with and then tell your Dr and he can make that work for you. Best wishes

Thank you. Is your near vision "natural"? When I put on reading glasses, everything is very big. In fact it's a magnifying lens. Hope is it not the same with near-set monofocal iol! :-/

No, it is natural, not magnified. It's like my vision when I was younger without presbyopia. I was near sighted and needed glasses for distance. Same now.

Perfect! I dont mind wearing glasses for far vision but I want to see my face well upclose. It's dreadful to shave, make-up and doing other things wearing glasses because you don't see your face anymore. Have you maybe noticed that something has even improved compared to your younger vision? Contrast sensitivity or vision through fog?

If you have an astigmatism you will need a Toric lens to see distance.  Without a Toric lens you will need to use glasses.
