Month into shingles and now URI

This is a double whammy!  Woke up this morning with head and chest congestion.  Anyone experience an infection of sorts after shingles?  I suppose you are susceptible because of the virus.  On antibiotic and cough med and con't Gabapentin and lidocaine patches.

    Hi Donna,

The most common complication after any viral infection is a bacterial infection.

Kids get ear infections after a cold, people get pneumonia after contracting influenza, and after I had shingles in my right ear the first time, I had a severe bacterial ear infection in both ears.

Please let me know how I may how you.

    Best Wishes

    Merry Juliana

Thanks everyone... I figured you would be susceptible to another infection (bacterial).  I'll get through it and yes I am resting.  Slept ok last night, no coughing (thanks to cough medicine) but face aching (sinus).  Steaming, sinus pack (heated) and I'll "hose" ok rinse my sinuses with Neilmed.  Hitting it with everything I have.  Having no energy with the shingles and now none again is disconcerting.  I'll make.  Thanks everyone!  Have a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you all have some relief! smile

Yes!! Very frequently after my episodes I would get a cough, sore throats, and head congestion. And even sometimes before. It's like shingles isn't hard enough on its own!!! REST!!!
