It sounds like she is seeing double images. I would have her go back to the surgeon to see what is wrong. The lens could be out of position, or something else. I was seeing double images before I had my cataract surgery.

its only been 2 months since surgery. give it more time to heal. as long as she is following all the prescribed precautions it probably the swelling can effect the shape of the eye can take time as well as the eye to adjust to the new lense. in my case i had double vision for many months after surgery, in time it slowly got better. the muscles in the eye, dry eye as well as the change of vision all is now so much clearer and colors brighter. it all takes time for our brains to adjust. sight is much different . sometimes medication can help ask the doctor for dry eye check which can also start after surgery .

thanks she has been going back to the dr. They aren't sure the cause yet. The double vision is only when reading up close not distance. Is that the double vision you experienced?

Did you experience the double vision with only reading?

My double vision was caused by the cataract in my natural lens. It was at all distances, and was solved by the IOL implant. It sounds like your mother's issue is quite different. I found this information at a Stanford Health Care site:

      .

"Double Vision Caused by Cornea Problems

The cornea is the clear layer that covers the front of the eye. Its main function is to focus incoming light into the eye. Problems in the cornea distort its surface, which can create double vision. Such problems include:

      • Astigmatism
      • Dry eyes
      • Infections such as shingles or herpes zoster
      • Scars caused by disease, injury or infection"

        .

Do you know if your mother has astigmatism issues? Was either IOL a toric lens? It would be indicated by having a cylinder correction factor and angle in an eyeglass prescription. An eyeglass prescription however is based on the total of the error in the lens and the cornea. After the natural lens is removed any astigmatism in the cornea remains. It if was being offset by astigmatism in the lens, it can actually get worse when the lens is replaced, unless it is compensated for. Some astigmatism can be corrected by post cataract surgery, or with eyeglasses.

It appears the issue is now caused by the cornea which my mother will go to a specialist to see what needs to be done. Has anyone else experienced cornea issues after cataract surgery.
