I used crutches when I first went into boot.

I started physical therapy soon after getting into the boot.

It didnt take long before I could walk in boot with no crutches and then finally into sneakers.

Trust me, Im not going to run a marathon soon but I am back to doing most everything I did prior to my injury

I broke my ankle 7/5, surgery 7/11 and by mid September I could walk in boot with no crutches and then into sneakers

Do what is comfortable for you and PT really helps.

I suggest using crutches until u comfortable with everything. My surgery back 7/2019 and still having problems. Doctors just give out other equipment but don't give you the downfalls of other things happening with your body ex: back pain and the other pressure u put on other limbs. I told my doctor something not right i go physical therapy and i'm working on my foot as well until he order a cat scan now i need surgery again.

    Hi Julie

I have had a lot of months in moon boots so nothing new to me. I have three worn out pairs at home and in fact, I am currently waiting for the next 14 days to pass by before I remove a cast on my right foot and then step into a moon boot once again for at least six weeks. Had an arthrodesis of my right ankle on 20/11.

From previous experience, I know that it's important to have the correct size moon boot . When I had my left TAR, I also made the moon boot fit as tight as possible around my lower leg. It felt like it actually absorbed a bit of weight that would otherwise have gone straight to the ankle joint. Together with crutches it made it easier to start walking on the ankle in the beginning. Loosened it a bit later on.

For fun, I once put on a Moonboot on each leg of mine simultaneously and boy!!!...there is no way you can walk at all!... 😆

I will probably go thru the same process than what you are going thru in 14 days. For now I am keeping a low profile and enjoying a very subdued Christmas season walking on crutches and not stepping om my right foot at all.

I hope you become accustomed to the moon boot soon. It is a wonderful tool to assist an ankle to heal properly.

    Regards

    Leon
