more blood tests....

this current infection has plagued me at least a month now, 3 weeks of antibiotics did'nt help, awaiting results of a sputum sample handed in last Tuesday, its Sunday now, how long do they take to give you results elsewhere in the country? also had blood sample taken to see if my body is making anti bodies or not, is this a normal check being made? I am slowly beginning to despair at lack of immediate help given here, how long must I suffer? please help me

I would have expected results in 3-4 days....so should be by tomorrow. My GP usually rings me with the result, often late in the evning.

The blood tests sound like a normal thing to do under the circumstances. I had blood tests for all sorts of things when this was diagnosed.

But , didn't your chest specialist do this? It's what i would expect and certainly what happened to me.

Where abouts do you live? and where were you referred?

fingers crossed for a result tomorrow Ruthie! the chest specialist did none of this whatsoever, he arranged a spireometry, and gave me a sputum sample bottle, that was it, I had no sooner sat down and I was on my way out again. I live in the far north of Scotland and was referred to Raigmore @ Inverness. all of which leaves me feeling my doctor is fishing blindly in the dark for answers, solutions...

When you put a sputum sample in I believe it has to be in the lab in a certain amount of time for example the same day or within so many hours. They would normally have the results in a couple of days unless they find something growing in your sputum and it will take a couple of days more. This is what I was told. Have you got any appointments at all with the hospital chest clinic?? Or are you solely reliant on your doctor??

seems to be the average time throughout the country, reassuring! I only had one, very brief hospital app after my diagnosis, from then on its been my doctor trying to cope, just seem to be eating useless antibiotics, endless blood samples, occasional sputum sample, getting nowhere.
