More confusion

Hi everyone. I have just gone to order my K2 as I am running low and the previous ones I ordered are no longer available. However, I now seem to have a choice of K2 mk4 OR K2 mk7. Have no idea what one I was taking before or what I should be buying now. Further investigations show that huge amounts of mk4 are needed to make a difference but mk7 stays in the body for longer and is more benificial. Have we all been taking the wrong one? Anyone know which one they are taking as it appears they are not all the same. Just to clarify, I am only talking about K2.

BTW I just read that if you can't find the reason for the osteoporosis you can't really influence it's course ?Any opinion on that?

It's like trying to fill a broken glass.

I have no idea why I have OP. None of the risk factors, not even an early menopause to blame. But the meds have made a huge difference to me and I am living a normal life, despite two vertebrae having been fractured. But I agree, if your diet lacks calcium, take calcium supplements, if it lacks iron, take iron and if it lacks Vit C take that. I feel I have changed the course of my OP with the meds. I suppose only time will tell, not just for me, but for all of us.

Hi Alison when you say you changed the course of your OP with meds do you mean just vitamin supplements or drugs such as Alendronic Acid?

Sorry dee. Replied to dida as she had asked pretty much the same question. I have doubled the amount I walk, every day. I take calcium and D3 and risedronate. As to which has made the biggest difference, who can tell, but this has worked for me, so I am happy to continue doing  this for the next few months ans see how it goes

I suppose, if you smoke or drink fizzy juice, you could stop these as statistics show they have an effect on bone density. If you eat nothing but convienience foods, avoid fresh fruit and veg, this will also have an effect on bone density, not to mention general health. Also, if you don't exercise, muscle and bone strength decline. If you are on medication, that causes deterioration of the bone, that sometimes can be changed or cut down or stopped, with the Drs advice. You cant change your parents so genetic causes, you are stuck with. But, perhaps the person has some truth in what they say. If you don't know the cause, eat well and excercise but still get OP where do you turn? From what you have said, your past lifestyle has probably contributed to your op. But, it is never to late to try to change the things we can change and try to accept the past is past and do the best we can for our bones from now on. Stay strong

I suspect if there's no easily found reason for OP it still makes sense to improve diet and exercise. I had always lived as healthily as I knew how, but after coming down with PMR I learned there were lots of things I could improve.

I couldn’t see where my diet or execise was lacking. I suppose I could have started on the oily fish, which I can’t eat, (personal taste) I already did everything else recommended. So, I doubled my walking, and started K2. I already walked an average 70,000 steps per week, and munched my way through a greengrocers produce daily. I also took supplements of calcium and D3. Yes we must try to do what is recommended but it is very frustrating when we do, and still discover we were well in to OP before we knew it.

As they say there aren't two osteoporosis the same.

With me I was ok and since I got bad I haven't felt any relief.

My op have influenced my life tremendously.

I even wonder if the bones never get strong again what's the outcome?

BTW Alison your verteabraes crashing was sponteneous or you actually fell?

Hi dida. My fractures occured at different times but none were the result of a fall. Lifting something heavy on one occasion and the other when I was sitting on the star and leaned back. My greatly improved t-scores are probably due to doubling the distance I walk every day in the last 3 years, and taking prescription meds as well as vit D3 and calcium. As to which one has had the greater influnce, I do not know but very pleased to see I am improving.

    thank you dear,

And one more thing when we talk fractures we talk breakage or smashing.

In my case the vertebrae just smashed.

    And I got kyphosis.

So I can't really feel my back the same way anymore.
