That's excellent news - well done you!

As to whether to reduce now by either 0.5 or 1mg, as you feel so good then it's highly likely that you will be successful with a 1mg drop....as long as you clear the decks and take it easy for a week or so to give your body a chance to adapt to the new dose. The Guidelines recommend a 1mg a month reduction down as far as 5mgs but a few people find they are unable to manage that and so drop in 0.5 decrements. I was successful with 1mg monthly drops at your current dose but we are all different and it's very much a case of finding what suits you.

Good luck with the reduction - don't forget to take it easy!

hi everyone there is a saying there is always one and i am it !!if you remember as i started to reduce ,my inflammatory markers increased with increased pain etc and finally i had to go back to 12.5 pred i was on that for a month and my crp went down from 14 to 6 my plasma vis was 1.67 i certainly felt less pain etc but this next month on the same dose have seen the symptoms increase again so it was no surprise to see the bloods start going back up the crp is 8 and plasma is 1.75 .the gp has suggested 12.5/10mg alt days and if my markers are increasing in a month to be refered back to consultant . I cant see how will this will help as the steroids seem to be the only answer except for awkard people like me who have never responded how you are supposed to if you have pmr .I think you can gather i am feeling down in the dumps and i am not sure what to think about it all regards carol k

No, don't feel "there's always one and it's you" because unfortunately this is the nature of the beast that is PMR. Flares in the disease are very common in the first 18 months to 2 years whilst the steroids are still trying to get a real grip on the inflammation. Your CRP reading hasn't increased by very much - I remember mine were up and down slightly even into the third to fourth years. Another while at the same dose hopefully will be all that is needed followed by just a 1mg reduction to ensure that the inflammation doesn't take hold again. Meanwhile, stay positive - good idea to be referred back to the rheumy though.
