More Swelling Post Op (Ligament repairs and bone spur removal)

Hi there, I had surgery on Tuesday morning (Sunday night as I'm writing this). I had three ligaments repaired and the medial side of the joint was cleaned up from arthritis damage. The pain has been pretty mild, even after my two nerve blocks wore off (one on each side of the leg). My swelling wasn't bad for the first few days but starting Friday-ish my ankle has gotten a lot more swollen. I'm keeping it elevated and taking 600mg ibuprofen every 4-6 hours as they told me to, but I can often feel it pressing against the cast now. I figured the worst swelling would be the first couple days, not almost a week after? What else can I do to help with swelling, it puts a lot of pressure and pain on my incisions. I can't ice it because I can't remove my cast sad Thank you!

I've seen people talk about icing behind the knee above your cast. People swear it helps with swelling and pain for the section that is covered by the cast.

    Hi Amanda!

I was also instructed to put ice behind my knee. It did help the swelling to go down.

Also, make sure your foot is elevated above your heart.

Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery.
