Morning anxiety/depression

Hi. Just looking for advice really.
I've been on citalopram 40mg for just over 4 weeks now. (still waiting for it to kick in)
Mornings seem to be really really tough. When I wake up my anxiety and depression seem to be a whole lot worse. (palpitations, tight chest, shakey, megetive thoughts and teary) it seems to get a little better by the evening most times, not all the time but I don't know if this is because I'm nervous about sleep because I know how I'm going to feel in the morning when I wake up. Morning anxiety is so horrible. Does anyone know why this is and will it go away when my tablets work? Thank you

Yes it will go away. I went through the same thing. My evenings were much better than my mornings. I've been on 20mg for 16 weeks. Now starting to feel better. But yes just give it time to work. I also seek counseling as well and added Abilify 2mg about 4 weeks ago. Abilify is a good add on medication in my opinion.

Thank you for replying x omg I'm so glad that it should go away that is such a relief! I just seem to be convinced that my tablets aren't working in the morning and it's difficult feeling like I'm back at square one. I'm glad you are starting to feel a lot better. Abilify? I've never heard of it so I'll do a quick Google search. And in what way does it help if you don't mind me asking 🙂

be careful with adding another anti d.abilfy is a antiphychotic med.me personally always adding something extra creates more drama.best regards

Thank you x ill probably just give it a miss adding anything else in. My doc tried adding mirtazipine to my 20mg of citalopram and that's why I'm in this mess now and had to up to 40mg.

Hi, it will get better. I had a severe case of anxiety and depression 2 years ago. I am better now. I was on 40mg, and now I'm on 20mg, maybe one day I'll be off the Citalipram altogether. It took about 14 weeks for mine to fully kick in, the illness feeds off stress, so relaxed where you can, if that's at all possible? Mornings are worse, your doing well, hang in there xx I tried abilify for abit, not sure it did much for me? You will get better.

Thank you for your reply it definitely gives me hope! Hopefully you'll be off it altogether sometime soon! Wow 14 weeks! I didn't know they could take that long to work. How did you manage to stick it out for so long? X

I was on 20mg for about for years and it just seemed to stop working for me. I never wanted to come off like some people do because how I felt before I started was horrific! Some people I know have been on their ADs for years and years. I'm hoping if the 40 works that it will work for a very long time lol. X

I ended up getting 1-1 sessions at mind and went to anti-anxiety and depression workshops. Also I went swimming. When I was really ill I couldn't do that sometimes. It was a really stressful time. I also practice deep breathing exercises if I feel symptoms coming back and visualising a relaxing beach scene. I use to go to cafes and read. You just have to survive the best you can. I struggled to believe i would get better, but i did.

Thank you x it is really tough isn't it. Sometimes I feel like I can do this! And then sometimes I'm the complete opposite where I just believe I'm stuck in this vicious cycle forever x I'm glad you found stuff to help you cope when you were struggling and I'm glad you are doing a lot better x I'm seeing a Councillor and doing cbt every Monday but feel like I need the tablets to work too. Coming up to 5 weeks so feeling a little disheartened but need to keep going!
