Morning Sciatica

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi I have recently been diagnosed with Sciatica. I have had the symptoms for about 3 months but are gradually getting worse. Now in the morning I can't straighten my leg. If the pain gets any worse I wont be able to walk. It does ease of a little after I've been mobile for a while but not much.

Has anyone any ideas? I have been doing various stretches but they dont seem to help. I am waiting for physio appointment in three weeks and that is an emergency one.

Thanks

    Dear Mick,

I have also been having severe sciatica for the past 12 weeks. I was exercising in the gym and then suddenly I had a sharp shooting pain down my right leg. I got an appointment with a neuro physician a few weeks later as the pain started getting worse. I got an MRI done and as it turned out, I have a disc prolapse on my right side. The pprolapse is so huge that the disc has to be removed as it is pressing against my nerves and my cause paralysis if I don't do anything about it. I travelled back home last month and managed to make it worse. My surgery is now scheduled for next week. It's a microdiscectomy and I've been told my pain will completely go away.

Now a few suggestions to help you through this.

Get an MRI done immediately. Do not get physio without the MRI. My physiotherapist managed to damage my back more because he hadn't seen my scans.

Rub bruffen gel on your back before going to bed everyday.

Do not sit for extended periods of time.

    Do not lift anything heavy.

Start taking volterol. It really helps with the nerve compression.

And get a neurological appointment immediately.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

      Hi Maham

Thanks for reply. I have scan next sunday so will find out what is going on! Can't pinpoint how it started no twinge. It is getting progressively worse. I will try what you have suggested. Hope your surgery goes well.

      Thanks

Hi Have not had scan yet having it this coming Sunday. Nothing Tramadol or Morphine ease pain so no point taking them!

Someone has suggested I see Chiropractor has anyone had any success in this area.

    Thanks

I too have sciatiIca pain and have had injection 3 weeks ago.  My MRI shows nerve compression, disc herniation, cysts, along with a significant amount of degeneration. Pain is still bad in the morning and I need to do the stretches to ease nerve pain my pt showed me.if I sit for more than an hour,  pain goes back to pretty severe and I need to do more stretches prescribed by pt.  Chiropractic would frighten me unless my physiatrist recommended it due to multiple problems in back. Physical therapy to strengthen muscles is my hope.  Guess my future care is living with and managing pain.

    Hi

Just got my MRI results any thoughts?

    Multilevel degenerative lumbar spondyiosis.

Mild to moderate narrowing of spinal canal at L4/5.

Small left posterolateral / far lateral disc bulge at L3/4.

Moderate size circumferential disc bulge with ligamentum flavum hypertrophy causing mild to moderate spinal canal stenosis. The disc is causing impingement on both the L5 nerve root, more pronounced on right side.

Ther is moderate sized broad based central/right paracentral disc bulge causing displacement of the right S1 nerve root.

I am obviously seeing GP for his opinion but would like to hear anyone else's thoughts.

    Thanks

    Mick
