Mornings

The mornings can be really bad for me. Pain and feeling low, to the degree I don't want to sleep. Anyone else feel the same?

Not a case of not wanting to sleep, for me it's a case of being so dam sore, in so much pain and yes feeling so low and NOT being able to fall asleep.  OR if I do manage to slip off to sleep, being woken up about half hour to 2 hours later and in the same chronic pain, frustration and wishing I could sometimes just pass out for a good painless refreshing sleep.  Sadly it never happens though!  Never feel refreshed, and always wake in pain and stiff.  Such is life, been this way constantly now for years...   :-(

      Thank you for replying.

Sorry you feel this way too.

I feel so low and don't have much quality of life being this way.

My main pain is in my lower back, which is always stabbing and I'm now finding I walk hunched.

      Docs don't seem to care.

Hi Ripley, it's just as cerys.aine quoted below, 'you are not your pain'..   This is so true!  Hence the small measures I take to keep myself plodding on.  I also as a last resort for sleep, go to bed about 8 or 8.30pm and take half a sleeping tablet, within either half an hour or up to 2 hours I am blissfully asleep and hoping nothing will wake me.  A good 4 - 5 hrs deeper sleep does work wonders for a boost.  Sometimes I get up to the bathroom, but go back to bed and eventually nod off again and may get another 2 or 3 hours.  The Key for me when I do begin to wake again is, I remain in bed and do some laying down gentle stretches, this will help get me into a more wide awake state of mind ready to get up and face the day.  Breakfast/lunch and a snooze sometimes in the afternoon if needed or just Resting the body on the laptop or Painting if able, helps the brain to deter away from pain.  Is always good to have a meaningful craft or hobby to concentrate on, and can come and go with over the days/weeks/months/years...  For me Oil Painting....  keeps me going..plus gentle stretching in a warm pool, and at home.  I now use elbow crutches, one or two when I want to be mobile, it helps to take the load off the lower back, hips and helps with balance.  Means you can not let Pain take over, you can still push through a certain amount of pain as it's not going to kill you.  You know to pace and rest, and to simply sometimes couch or bed rest.  It's daily, ever changing strategies...

Take care and it's normal to feel low and have a down time rest, but then you have your push through days, and then at times better days or moments....   I appreciated those days when I have even managed to get out of bed, eaten, and pursued the odd job to do in such a small area as I have, and to be able to Paint.

Blessing for the New Year ahead, may it be an improvement on the this year for you to....

Hi Ripleyroo, I think I get what u mean. Sleep is my nemesis.  I'm up all hours and finally crash for a bit when the sun comes up. I've got a lot of pain issues including fibro and I just can't get comfortable. I reposition so often then up/down so much its like a workout lol. Then there's the nightmares sad I dreamt I was at hospital and had asthma attacks then woke up and actually had one

since sleep is not restorative it's easy to wonder why even bother... I see one of my drs at 7 am and those days I just stay up. It's exhausting and I get sad about quality of life too. I'm grateful my spouse keeps us afloat financially and my kids deserve medals or healthaide degrees for all they do for me.

Today's weather and too much screen time yesterday has all my joints and ribs in an uproar. Can't breathe either from mold allergies. At times it seems never ending but try not to give up. I'm talking to myself as much as to you :0 but press on support yourself with the best treatments you can find/afford that work for you and lots of pacing.

I got a mindfulness for chronic pain book from an author I heard online. She's in the UK and runs Breathworks programs there.  In the US her book is titled "you are not your pain" and that's a pretty good mantra smile  I was reminded recently "this too" (the downer stuff)  is part of life and getting angry or resistant just adds suffering. But i get it. it's a struggle. Sorry to ramble. Hope it helps a little .Take care.

hi to Ripleyroo1 and others;  I have noticed that none of you seem to be mentioning if you are taking any medications for your pain?  someone said they get "sharp" pain in lower back?   many of us rely on 1 or 2 different medications ;  these being either Gabapentin (neurontin) or/and Amitriptylline....both of these meds are good for stopping the Nerve Pain that we all suffer from..................as for "restorative sleep",  I have been trialling Melatonin Supplements, as this is something else that the research has shown that we do not make "enough" melatonin with this condition, so by taking 1-2 tabs at night, this helps me to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go.............it has to be of a particular brand, though, as I have found that if taking some of the ones sold in pharmacy, they actually hype me up, so better to take them on a day that is going to be a "full" day...................I will go back to my order (as my memory is failing me at present...another problem hey?) and let you know..........Bron
