Morphine insomnia

For a while now i have been on tramadol for pain and amitriptyline to help me sleep, the amitriptyline has been working fantastic to help me sleep.
i have now also been put on morphine to take with my tramadol to help with the pain because tramadol on there own are not working.
But now if i take the morphine during the day and my sleeping meds on a night like usual the morphine is stopping the sleep meds from working. Anyone had this issue?
its quite annoying because i know have the issue of 'stop in pain and sleep on a night' or 'not be in pain and get no sleep'

Your doctor has now effectively put you on three opiates none of which will help with pain, or sleeping, in the long run. Tramadol and morphine are great in the very short term but in the end you just end up in a druggy fog with no sleep and the pain lurking in the background!
Sarah, this is my story - I was also prescribed these, tramadol, fentanyl patches (morphine) and amiltriptaline for sleep - they were even endorsed by the pain clinic at the hospital.
Afer about three months I wasn't sleeping, my speech was slurred, I was tearful, angry for no reason, depressed and had the shakes! I also still had breakthrough pain. Both my hips were bone on bone and it was unbearable, I could barely walk and couldn't stand for very long.
I read up about the drugs I was taking and didn't like what I read. I also spent my sleepless nights researching and found the drugs that could help me. Although I didn't quite believe what I read I was prepared to give it a go and I went back to the doc and told him what I needed.
I spent two weeks weaning myself off tramadol, little by little. I reduced the time I was wearing the morphine patches and when I had halved the dose I started to replace each dose with high strength co-codamol 30mg/500mg. Once I got over the initial woozy feeling I found that the pain was much better. I got rid of the tramadol completely and the patches and the amiltriptaline as well.
I took 2 co-codamol every four hours and had two ibuprofen two hours after the co-codamol. I believe that the tramadol/morphine/amiltiptaline combo had been stopping me sleeping because I started sleeping nearly through the night. I was also managing the pain better.
I don't think there is anything that completely gets rid of pain once it is a certain level but my head certainly felt a lot better and I felt in control of myself again.
Sarah, I was quite addicted to tramadol and morphine in the end and it was quite a test of strength to come off them but I can honestly say that life got better as well as pain relief and sleep.
You don't need to be in such a mess and I would go back and see another doctor.
Hope this helps.

Constant pain is a ghastly, never ending cycle BUT it can be broken by other, more effective things.
Someone mentioned a Tens machine and they can be really effective.
I also had some accupuncture free from an NHS physio therapist - maybe worth a try.
I can't tell you how different you will feel without the opiates but it is entirely up to you.
You so need this date to focus on now - I am waving my wand as hard as I can
