from last 5 -6 months i was experienceing a lot of pain underneath my fourth toe. I ignored it. I use to take my shoes off for few minutes and then there was no pain. From last one month i am experiencing a lot of pain in my fourth toe. Not at all in my third toe. The pain starts underneath the fourth toe and goes up and then i am in agony. Went to a cheropadist and advise that i am over pronating. Gave me insoles to wear and i was again in agony. Went to the doctors and they advise me it was MN. There was a lump underneath my fourth toe. Gave one injection but i still feel uncomfortable. Bought wide shoes plus silicone pad but no joy. Again went to the chropadist for advise and said she dont think its neuroma as the pain is on the top and not underneath. I am really worried as i going to see my mother after 3 yrs and going abroad in a months time. Can someone help me. How long it takes to heel after the first injection.

I have just had surgery for 2 neuromas in one foot. I had injections in October 2008 and pain returned within 3 months. I had trouble when walking, with the pain in the bottom of the foot, however when examined and pressed, the pain was evident in the top of the foot. The surgery has caused numbness in the toes as the nerve was removed, I do expect this to ease in time. If I were you, knowing what I know now and what I have been through with the surgery, I would see a physio or maseuse and have the foot manipulated to try to create better space around the nerve and ease compression of the nerve. Only consider surgery as a last resort or if the pain becomes unbearable.

    Good luck. smile

I have also recently been diagnosed with MN - between both the 2nd and 3rd and 3rd anf 4th toes on left foot. I had two injections 2 weeks ago and so far the paid in worse that it was before. I'm trying big shoes and support soles with pain killers and have just managed to get about a bit and drive again.

Any information would be helpful as I've read too many negative reports about surgery. The waiting list on NHS seems to be 9 months so I've lots of time to try alternatives!

I've had a burning feeliing in both my feet for about 5 wks all the doctors seem to do is prescibe me strong pain killers which do really work but @ dont want to be to dependant on them, the burning & pain is reaaly bad at night, sometimes I wake & the pain is so bad it makes me cry I've had blood tests & x-rays I'm just waiting to find out what my GP can do for me. One GP gave me a leaflet on Metatarslgia which is NO HELP. If I had to give the pain a rating between 1 & 10 I'd give it a 9.5.
