Morton's Neuroma

I've had foot pain for sixteen years and been told it's arthritis and I had to live with it.After seening two rhuematoligests in two different hospitals,I finally managed to get ultrasound, which proved I had Mortons on both feet. So full of hope of an operation I saw my G.P. today. No op. only injections. I'm so gutted. I thought after all these years I would be pain free and it's not going to happen.

i would avoid surgery if at all possible. I had surgery to remove my neuroma and now it has 'bulbed' or 'broccoli-ed' up and hurts again. a new doctor said that surgery is only effective in about 80% of the cases and if we keep doing surgery, we'll just chase the nerve up my foot...

A general reply as I have fully joined the Morton's family now. I have a neuroma diagnosed by ultrasound in my right foot 2 years ago which I am managing by wearing shoes with good space in the toe box ( very difficult with a dressy shoe though). I have what seems be called Mulder's click also on the foot.
?Over the past few months I've also noticed the problem in my left foot although it's not been diagnosed yet and the pain is not severe as is the case in some postings.
?I think this may have been brought on by an unusually hard foot massage where the sides of my foot were squeezed very tightly but I could be wrong ( I don't run).
etc.). I now feel I need to change to an automatic car to stop as to change gear manually is painful each time. Difficult with the speed pedal for my right foot but this seems to be less of a problem. I've also noticed that sandals are helpful as they have both arch & metatarsal support and I wear sandals around the house as slippers! I have the sandals with the 2 large bars across as they are very supportive .....but you can aslo get closed toe styles so I might try that too. I recently saw a reference to this on a 'running' website when seraching the topic as there was a lot of discussion about Morton's by regular runners. The alchohol injections seem to be helpful to many and I need to look into this further aswell as specialist othotics if things don't stabise as they appear to have done in my Right foot.

Dear,
Did you ever thought about going to an Osteopath? As health professional I have seen several Morton's Neuroma's in my practice. They also tried different things such as injections, even operations. As a morton neuroma is often induced by to much pressure or immobility in the area of the 3th and 4th metatarsal an Osteopath can be helpfull to reduce this. After 3-4 sessions you can see and feel an increase in mobility and less pressure on the foot. This can certainly help you reducing the pain.
So try and see an Osteopath!
