Movicol seems to be doing the trick

I posted a message late last year! My daughter of now 2 1/2 has suffered constipation since she was about 8 months. Usual fob offs from the docs etc until my husband took her to A&E as she was listless and clearly distressed. They cleared her out and immediately put her on movical and (touch wood) 8 months on, potty trained and on movicol everyday, she is going everyday. However, when we ran out & the docs wouldn't release the prescription until we had called them about it, 4 day delay, she was bunged up again and complaining \"it hurts\"! Back on movicol (having dropped senna and lactulose altogether back in March) she is going everyday. I know she doesn't drink enough fluid, but you can't force it down them. Don't know long term what we will do but for now, we are sticking with it........my advise to anyone, give it time, don't

give up after couple of weeks but keep going at the docs/consultants.

We are back for an appt in June when I want to know how we wean her off

the drugs and what long term effect it could have (although been told none as its such a mild drug and just retains water in the bowel to keep it all soft) Whilst she is going, I am one very happy mum!

Good luck

    Hi

I know its been a year now, but I just wondered what happened at your visit to clinic and did you start to wean off the Movicol. My daughter has been on it for about a year now and I wondered how much longer??

Good to read a positive bit of advice. I have been prescribed Movicol for my 2 year old but he won't drink it. How did you get your child to take it ?? I am at my wits end !! Nothing else seems to be working and the Docs don't seem that bothered.
