MRgFUS next week, what should I expect?

Hello ladies,

After almost two years of massive period bleeding with all the emotional and physical distress that we all know accompany this ... I'm having my MRgFUS procedure next week. I know it is a non invasive procedure, although I've read it can be painful. So I was wondering if any of you out there has gone through it and can give me some first hand information as to what I should expect on the day and the days after.

    Hi, I had this procedure a couple of years ago. It’s really hard to explain the feeling really. The procedure at first wasn’t painful, but as it went on I did become very aware of a burning sensation and I had to then ask them to stop (you have control via remote control which lets the staff know to suspend the procedure). I let them restart, but then had to stop again as I was finding it too uncomfortable.  They did manage to treat half of my fibroid so at least the procedure was not wasted. We all react differently and I have heard that some women experience no pain. After the procedure I travelled home after an hour or so and rested. I needed a few days off work, not because I was in pain but I just wasn’t feeling 100% and felt like I had a slightly raised temperature.  Overall, I was trying to avoid surgery and although a little daunting at the time (I’m not good with enclosed spaces!) I’m glad that I tried the procedure as it did help my symptoms. Hope this helps, good luck with it all.

      Thank you very much for your answer! I had experienced the burning and also a pretty intense back pain, when they were treating close to the pelvis or close to the back. At the beginning I did stop it also a few times but then realized that was going to be it so tried to go through it. They managed to fry more than 95% of the little b*****d, so based on your 50% reduction and good relief of symptoms I am really hopeful that it will work for me too.

      I haven't had my first period yet so I can't comment on that. Also, I've read that it takes a few months to get better, was that your experience or did it work straight away?

      Overall I'm really happy I did it :-)
