i had a two hour MRI of my spine. After the MRi my arm hurt felt like i had a cut I complained about how bad it filled but nobody would listen to me and they just ship me out of the hospital later that evening I have blisters forming on my arm I now have a nap but the size of a 3 x 3 area which I have called I’ve just received treatment and they can’t figure out what is going on recently yesterday my doctor tried to cut my arm open to see if maybe there was an infection in there to dig out keeping in mind they treated me 3×3 different anabiotic‘s knowing that there is an infection in our in my arms he cannot get an infection he went pretty deep he is sending me to a Surgeon to see what he can do for me when he tried to close me up he said my skin was like shoe leather he could get the needle through to give me some stitches this is been completely exhausting I had no help from anybody from OHSU and feel like I’ve been up I’ve been hurt and abandoned I have even contacted attorney who told me unless I can prove that I have been injured with no with a permanent disability there is nothing they can do to help me Also after MRI I had a cold hand and arm all the way up to the burn for two weeks I cannot feel anything in my hand must my arm the feeling has slowly came back but I still have very limited use of my fingertips in my hand I am thinking I had some to do the MRI to but they said probably not thing is I didn’t have any of these issues before going into the MRI and now they’re telling me that the MRI could’ve caused all these problems they do agree that there is a thing known as MRI thermal burns and they did shut the MRI down and they have inspected and they have apologized but at that and they are done

Hi I'm not sure how you managed to burn in an MRI because usually the only time you get burnt is if (no offense meant) you are quite large and touch the sides.
if this is not the case then was their a fault on the MRI machine

I HAD BEeN PUT TO SLEEP BECAUSE OF MY PTSD. They said my arm fell out if the sling and laid against the machine they believe for a couple of hours. My big issue is I told them something was wring that my arm was hurting. i asked to see the doctor was refused and told it was something people felt after MRI. It is clear if a doctor had been called they could have treated me then before it hot as bad as it is now.
Your comment seems snarky and negative is that your goal?
This is very painful and traumatic for me. I thought thus was a support group if not the case please let me know.

this site is where you ask a question and we answer, what I replied was fact and you should put all the details on your questions so we have all the facts ie tell us your arm was in contact with the machine at all times

The scanner can emit high-powered electromagnetic radio frequency pulses that are conducted through the body, creating heat.

Dear ANNIE! There have been others on this board who have experienced thermal burns from mris over the years. i remember their stories all to well ....as I read their posts and cringed from reading their experiences. i am very sorry that you , first had to deal with the Negligence at OHSU and second that the personnel who were responsible for you while you were under light sedation due to your PTSD, were obviously not watching you for your arm to become burned. from what i have read mri burns burn from the inside out thus thermal burns are serious and can dangerously put muscles and tendons at risk. OBVIOUS NEGLIGENCE on behalf of the hospital OHSU. the posters in the past who experienced mri thermal burns have been treated the same way and no one took responsibility . mostly due to laymans terms of understanding and not having the background with how mris work or the burns caused by them . too hospitals many get away with harming patients. AND Annie you knew when you woke from the mri that you were burned, and thats enough for me.. file a complaint with OHSU. they are supposed to protect patients and fight it with a attorney. find one and dont let them get away with causing injury to you. i have had mris there and always afraid of becoming a victum of someones negligence since becoming aware of thermal burns. it happens more than you imagine.
I wonder.... how many other complaints have they had in the past from mri burns and ask to see copies. or a lawyer to help you acquire previous complaints .....
do some research online on mri burns there are many clinical studies available that explain how thermal burns happen and what results and actions you can take. search for a good lawyer who will help you, even if you need to find one from out of state. be your own self advocate.
by the way recently OHSU has lost their entire heart transplant unit and all their heart specialist doctors have left OHSU, leaving all the heart patients and transplant patients to find treatment and new heart doctors on their own and in many cases having to relocate to CA or WA. no reason was given.
Annie all the angels are guarding you! HOLDING you on their wings, giving you support, hope, strength and peace while you find resolution to this journey. once you find the reasons for the burns then ask for copies of your medical records this can be a good start for finding help . you are not abandoned here at all.... there are many here who will stand by you and support you in any way possible.
Annie you are absolutely right about this board...it is here to support others. many responders could also look up mri burns and have a better understanding on how this horrible thing can happen to ANYONE. Again i am very sorry that you have had to cope with all of the feelings that come with the whole confounded issue....this was not something that you or anyone deserves, it is not acceptable when your not helped when harmed in the way you were and no one to turn too! there are lots of good people here who offer kindness and support. i have been here a long time there are so many supportive, non judgmental, wise and helpful posts to fall back on over the years. i just want you to find this to be a safe place to come for support, love, and understanding. your hurting and i think feeling alienated by the way the hospital staff has treated you. and that is what can be eliminated with many others responding with kind supportive posts.
how is your arm now doing? it sounds painful from your description. hopefully they are not charging you or your insurance for treatment. there are special funds allocated just for these types of circumstances. I find this inexcusable behavior by the hospital staff and the mri personnel. sending many healing blessings your way!

For people who have had new hips they need to be careful as there is the possibility of MRI burns, so people need to tell the hospital about the prosthesis beforehand.
