Posted , 55 users are following.

i HAD A 25 MINUTE SCAN FOR THR INVESTIGATION.

In the last 3 minutes I began to burn up. After I was dizzy and fwelt sick and my face hands legs etc were red and it felt like sunburn. I had to go in a cold bath at night to cool off for months. Other symptoms occurred. Dry mouth dry eyes. These are still going on.

Radiology Dept said `iT NEVER HAPPENS` tHE iNTERNET SAID OTHERWISE.

Anybody else have a reaction to MRI?

Thank you for the informational sites and sharing your story. As far as your upcoming MR scan, from what I've researched, to minimize burns is to use an older 1.5 machine instead of a tesla 3. And of course the padding to go inbetween your arms and the machine, etc, listed in the articles. And if you can split up your MRIs if you need multiple instead of getting them all on the same day, to help minimize the heat/burns. I recently had to do a lumbar MRI (I was burned from a thoracic MRI), and it went ok but I was nervous. My neck and upper back started burning but it went away after a couple hours after. The thoracic one was last June. Good luck ❤️

I had an MRI over two years ago and got terrible burns on my arms and under my breasts. The skin under my breasts peeled off to be replaced with a dry, rough skin like an alligator's. That skin fell off to be replaced by new, smooth skin so sensitive I have not been able to use a bra since then. To this day, I cannot stand the heat. When I perspire, my skin stings big time. All the doctors I've seen for this condition say the same thing, "It cannot happen." It is frustrating and very painful. I wear long sleeves (I live in Miami) all the time to hide the ugly burns and to keep the skin from tearing with the least contact with any hard surface.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but it just doesn't go away.

So sorry to hear that Maritza, must be awful living with that pain every day, especially living in Miami where it gets so hot. I am grateful at least that my burn happened in a cold UK january, so the worst of it has passed during the cold weather. But we had few days of sun, and I did notice it getting worse then.

Thank you for your comment, Vanessa. We are at 80+ degrees right now and I try to stay home with the air conditioner set really low. There is a powder, "Zeasorb" that I use to keep me relatively dry. You may want to give it a try. It's over the counter but somewhat difficult to find. I order it from Amazon. On e tub will last you a long time. Good luck.

    Hi all

I came across this site as I too have been burnt by an MRI scan. Long story of injuries to my cervical spine and I have had many scans without problems. I have suffered an internal burn below the skin in my neck recently. Hospital denied but unfortunately for the hospital they picked on the wrong person. I am a senior/lead RF specialist engineer who has had to professionally study how MRI scanners work. As a result I insisted that the manufacturer of the machine be contacted and a report done.

It was found that the technician had the RF power turned up to max, and the internal bore of the scanner has blown air cooling, this was at minimum, for my personal circumstances this was very wrong. Hence I suffered an internal burn.

The PEAK power of an mri PULSE can average between 16-18Kw. Because the pulse is normally a very short duration its not normally a problem, but if the repetition rate is increased the SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) of the body area can be exceeded and prolonged exposure WILL CAUSE BURNS.

The other big big big problem is trying to get your G.P,Hospital A&E , to understand the injury as the MRI BURN DOES NOT PRESENT as a normal contact burn.

Only medical advice I was given, apply cold compress and take Paracetamol, really? Five years of medical training was well invested there then!!

Please all, understand that these internal Radio Frequency burns can cause serious injuries, some of which the ladies have highlighted. Do not be afraid to complain, complain and complain some more....

On a legal front, solicitors do not have a proper understanding of this issue yet, but I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg, the view is, if they cant see a burn then it did not happen.

Hello. Thank you for your explanation.

We all can check SAE on the disk with images, am I correct?

Yes I had terrible reaction to an MRI on my Head, neck, and throat. My skin was burnt red and a screw exited from under chin from jaw bone. my mouth was burnt and I could not touch food. I had to be prescribed painkillers. Surgeon refuses to acknowledge that the MRI caused it. He says bee saw that reaction before and that it was an infection.

yes, I also had the feeling of burn and dizziness yet the radiologists all say it isn't caused by MRI. But it is. Also started to develop ear issue just after the scan that partially went away.

    Yes Julie

I had a MRI scan 9 days ago and felt burning on my arm and under my nose. The radiologist said it cannot happen after 30 years of her doing scans it has never happened before. Well it has now 9days of constant burning, pain killers every 4 hours and ice packs. Nobody seems to want to know. There is only a small scar to show but this feels like sunburn times 100.
