MRI scan refused

Posted , 2 users are following.

After 25+ years of lumbar pain followed by recently fracturing L1, I asked my GP for an MRI scan. He said NHS England "wouldn't allow" him to refer me as only a consultant could do this. Yet I know at least 2 people who have been referred by their GPs. Am I being fobbed off or lied to by my own doctor?

I suffer from a prolapsed disc and can appreciate how you feel. If i were you i would ask for a second opinion from another doctor or ask to be referred to a consultant. If this is not forthcoming get in touch with the NHS complaints dept. they will soon have you in hospital being thoroughly checked over. All doctor's have a duty to their patients and have to have a good reason for non referral. Good luck and I hope you have things sorted soon.
