Do all patients undergoing THR have MRI scans?

    I had an MRI first, ordered by rheumatologist who thought I had a persistent tendonitis. That revealed the problem (collapsed right  femoral head and avascular necrosis on both hips) when I got to orthopedic surgeon, he did an X-ray. I think MRI is more for soft tissue. I have had one done (5 wks ago) adn the second one scheduled for April 20. It is slowing down rehab of new and PAINFREE hip-- I have to say the bone spurs on the x ray (subchondral cysts?) are really pretty though. They look like a bunch of starbursts.......
