hi there , i have. i had a myomectomy that did not work and had an mri after to see the situation. it saw the exact location and size of the fibroids and it was seen that the fibroids were embedded into the uterus. You have to wear a gown and doesn't take long - bout 20 mins, its pain free, you just have to be really still. hope that helps, any other questions, let me know.

I am guessing you are having it before surgery as it will help see where the fibroids are growing

    Hi eliza69417

"MR guided Focused Ultrasound Therapy is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure, which uses high doses of focused ultrasound waves (HIFU) to destroy uterine fibroids without affecting any of the surrounding tissue. The procedure is conducted in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, which enables the physician "see" inside the body and monitor the treatment in real-time."

I have never had the MR guided Focused Ultrasound Therapy procedure.    I chose to have the Uterine Fbroid Embolisation on 27th July 2016.  It is early days since the procedure but I await the results in a few months time.

There is information on Google about MR guided Focused Ultrasound Therapy but maybe someone else can respond if they have undrgone this procedure.  This is a procedure and not the same as having a MRI scan to identify location of fibroids or other organs.

hello thank you for the information. how do you feel after you undergo UFE? I might as well prefer to have that treatment

      Hi eliza69417,

I actually feel well following the procedure.  The first 4 days were painful and the first 2 days the pain was managed by the clinic and I stayed for 2 nights.  The night after my discharge was painful cramps but I got through it and took my precribed drugs  (codein and I bruprofen) regularly.  By the 5th day I no longer had pain.  I did develop a Uterine Tract Infection (UTI) for which I took antibiotics and that course ends this Friday.  Overall I am optimistic but I guess only time will tell.   I had multiple fibroids about 7 in total which were submucous and subserous the largest of which was 8 x 6 cm pressing on my bladder.  I still have frequency issues but I am on antibiotics so I will see what happens when that issue is resolved.   This treatment is non invasive the incision site has healed very well.  I prefer this method to the open myectomy that I was offered.   I elected to have this procedure and went privately as a self funded patient, so I am invested in this treatment working.

How many fibroids do you have? where are they located and what type are they?  If you are symptomatic what type of symptoms are you having?....the answers to these questions might help you determine what type of procedure will work for you.   It should be noted that for my submucous fibroids that protruded into the uterus cavity, I partially removed one by resectioning and uterus lining ablation in may 2016.  This resulted in no further heavy bleeding but only spotting during my last periods....if I had one, don't know because was only spotting at the time.  Additionally, the gynaecologist placed the Mirena coil duting the procedure in May.  Therefore, I have no bleeding or discharge following the UFE thus far but it is very early days.

UFE or UAE is amazing but quite painful, so plese be aware. Every woman's pain level and recovery will be different. I had my procedure 7/18 and it took me 2 full weeks to recover with level 10 pain for the full 2 weeks. I believe it all depends on the amount of fibroids you have and the sizes of the fibriods. Myself, I had 7 fibriods total and my uterus was stretched 17cm in diameter, the size of a woman 6 months pregnant. 3 of the 7 were significantly large and the largest was pretty massive, almost the size of my abdomin from 1 side across to other. I would advise any woman to try an alternative procedure instead of a partical or full removal for the resproductive system. If the in years to come the fibriods come back, you still have the option of myomectomy or hysterectomy. Also you can have the UAE as many times as you want if the fibriods come back, you never have to have you uterus removed.
