MrsK and GCA abd Pred Reduction

Posted , 10 users are following.

Somewhere on this site, and I just cannot find it I posted that I was going to take a drop from 3mg to 2.5mg (it was a long posting so I am not going to do it again).

Well, I finally took the drop a week past Saturday and boy did I go through it.

EileenH and MrsO reminded me I had not done the math - it was a 17% drop. Too much in one go so I found out the hardway.

However, by the Friday - back to normal (or what passes for normal) and the drop seems to have worked.

Next time - I am going to do ADT or Ragnar, as 0.5mg to 2mg looks a long way down to me. But I will still 'clear the decks' for the week following the drop.

Oh and I made the 75th Birthday lunch and had a great time.

EileenH or MrsO - I need the math done.

PS I won't lose this post (see title).

Hi Mrs G. Pleased to hear that 4mgs is good for you just now. I'm very 'comfy' at 4mgs but thought I should at least try to get a bit lower as I managed to get to 2.5mgs before Jake's op. As Eileen mentioned a while ago, some people have to stay on a low maintenance dose, so if that's what I have to do, then I will. But not giving up just yet

Hi Eileen. My Mum used to say I had cement for marrow bone! I was a size 10 (for about 8 hours once!!!) and still weighed over 10 and half stone. Of course it could have been the wrong label

Feeling better today even after having friends to stay all weekend, so fingers crossed. I've got little or nothing planned for the next two weeks in preparation for the drive to Spain.

    Take Care,

    Love from Lizzie xxx

Well, after 4 years of dealing with the GP and same Chemist, wrong pred strength delivered. 1mg tablets instead of 2.5mg, and what's more they have doubled the amount.

So, if I return them, they will be thrown away and that is sheer waste.

Do not get next blood test till Tuesday and I promised my GP I would stick with 2.5mg daily until we got the results of that one.

Welll needs must when the devil drives, so, 2mg one day 3mg next day.

Looking forward to it really, gives me an excuse and if it works ok, will then be able to argue for 2mg drop.

Fingers crossed that the CRP does not go over the 13 - then he won't be happy. If its 13 or under - then next drop here we come.

New computer now and a steep learning curve. Windows 7 and a whole host of new thingy mi jiggs. Treacle brain needs to keep away.

smile This new wireless keyboard and mouse have monds of their own.

Do hope the oversight by the pharmacy ends up working to your advantage,,,,,,,,and you get to a lower dose 'accidentally'!

Is your new computer a laptop? If so, I know just how strange you are finding it - I'm using one at the moment and have trouble putting the mouse exactly where I want it - when I want to go back and add a letter I might have missed I usually end up clicking on the wrong spot.......might invest in a separate mouse if I don't manage to get the main computer sorted!

I'm told Windows 7 is quite good - is that true? Anything can be better than Vista though! I need a new computer really as although this one is OK for almost everything I'm getting the occassional enormous PowerPoint file to translate and it can't do them and has a paddy. I link the netbook in which has 2007 and can cope with the newer files but it is SOOOOOOOOOOO slow! So a new computer it will need to be whilst we are over in the UK in July - has to be an English-speaking one!

I haven't posted for ages ....no excuse really it's just that things seemed to run along swimmingly. GCA is my disease (since 2006 )

I got down to 4 days on 4.5mgms and one day on 4mgms ( I have the most fantastic \"pill cutter\" with a very delicate blade ) Carried on like this for 3 weeks.......then, one morning stiff neck, pain around my temples and I felt not too good.

Shall I or not I thought. Well I did.......revert back to 5mgms that is, and I feel/ felt fine, until Friday.

As I merrily walked along the road to the Dr's Surgery to leave my prescription, I stubbed my shoe on an uneven paving flag. It's so strange the fall seems to last forever, I told myself \" thank goodness you saved yourself\" Well I didn't.

I smashed my left arm into a wall, and landed on my left knee.

OOoh I though that hurt, and felt a little woozy. I did not look at my arm and somehow made my way to the surgery, posted my Prescription in the allotted box. Just then a jolt of pain made me remove my Mac and look at the damage.

Immediately the Receptionist came to me and said ...you don't look well. I looked at the smashed skin at the same time as she did. I knew steroids made for thin skin but this was ridiculous. A gaping wound with jagged edges and fatty tissue was there for all to see.

Within minutes I was in a Taxi and off to A/E where I was seen, given some Analgesic, and after about 30 minutes wait was ushered into the inner sanctum of the Emergency Dept.

Local anaesthetic and 14 sutures later I was able to leave and return home for a much needed cup of tea.

Still very sore, must remove the dressing tomorrow and see what lies beneath.

Steroids +age = very thin skin.

    Oh Milly

That does sound awful Falling alone always seems to shake your whole body up not just the bits you hit and with the wound as well !

Hope it heals well I know there are some great believers around on here of Arnica if it isnt healing well

Hope it doesent have any lasting effects

Ouch Milly....that sounds really painful  . Hope the wound is healing well for you and the council do something about the offending pavement. We have many people here who would be claiming massive compensation if they had your experience . We call them the \"compo\" kings & queens  .

    Feel better soon.

    best wishes, Pauline.

Milly, I've had some skin damage in my time on steroids but 14 stitches :wah:

Good thing it happened where it did. No! I'll re-phrase that. If it had to happen, at least you had sympathetic help.

Hope it's not TOO painful and heals fast.

Even on very hot days I wear long sleeves in the garden now having been attacked by what look like quite innocuous leaves and twigs.

One of the well documented side effects, alas.

I am so glad I posted....makes one feel less alone.

Forgot to add my Mac (already at least 10 years old ) is made of the same sort of material as Parachutes but lined with mesh.......not even the slightest mark on the outer sleeve....you can imagine what the inner sleeve was like ! Haven't even washed the Mac yet, perhaps tomorrow when I have looked at the healing ( I do so hope it is ) wound.

The Jeans I was wearing also not a mark on the outside........very strange.

Anyway I feel a bit less sore tonight ( Panadol )...and all your Sympathy. Thanks.

Ouch! Yes - when I fell off the bike last year the jeans were in far better condition than my knee! The thumb was worst though - it refused to bend for anout 4 months  - but has fully recoverd now.

Hope you heal reasonably well - could be an impressive scar!

Millie, I do not expect when I post some fairly good news, that you go and fall over and hurt yourself. So....................................

watch out for next week, as I am clearing the decks again and going down to 2mg - yes GP agreed with me today, that after I pointed out to him that maybe CRP 13 was my norm and we tried 2.5mg and the next test (4 weeks later) showed CRP 13, now we go for 2mg.

But, need clear week as I do get withdrawal symptoms. But not pain, as I don't have PMR, just mood swings, tearfulness, sheer b****y fatigue together with sleepless nights. 5 to 6 days generally sees me back to what passes for normal and two more skirts don't fit anymore, they fall down all the time and they have elasticated waists.

    MrsK

Well as long as it's only the skirts that fall down - it's when the knickers do it you need to worry!

Hope it's a smooth descent down to 2mg - everything crossed for you.

Hope all goes well with your next reduction

To celebrate you can buy some new skirts !! Nothing better than clothes being too big !

    Best wishes

    Hello all

I haven't been on here for a long time, because of a mixture of being too busy and a lot of ailments. Glad to read some of you are managing the \"drop\" well. I am now down to a week of 2.5, 0, 2.5, 2.5, 0, 2.5, 0 and so on. Was going to go to 2.5 and 0 alternate days but worked out it was a large percentage.

I am having a lot of trouble with my chest mucus problem (some of you will remember this) and am on yet another week of antibiotics as the lady doctor in our practice said it sounded like an infection. Trouble is, it's the 3rd lot of antibiotics in less than 2 months. I went to see her as fed up with my usual doc taking no notice and saying, \"oh, it's probably the acid reflux but don't worry because you have the stomach protection from the omeprazole\". That seems a contradiction to me!

This is causing me more problems than my PMR. Fingers crossed my pred drop is working. Also have rotator cuff injury in my left shoulder - have had it for 3 months so have started physio exercises for that!

Not very happy at the moment as my chest is uncomfortable and it's been going on for months. Doc is going to send me for a chest xray next week so at least she is trying to work it out.
