MRV (migraineous related vertigo)

After lots of tests including balance and hearing tests and an MRI scan last year, I was diagnosed with MRV and take 30mg Nortrtptyline daily.   Despite this I still don't feel 'right' and not sure what to do.  My consultant discharged me.  My main problem is when I'm walking, I can feel that I'm off balance, being pulled to one side (usually the left) and I sometimes fear I'm going to faint or collapse which then causes me to panic and start getting palpitations.  I can't think what is causing these sensations.  Is there anyone who has similar to mine?

Today i have felt very 'strange' sort of a blurry vision, like someone has put a film over my eyes and a frontal headache, i guess this is all part of the MRV.  I have written a letter to my consultant today with some queries so hopefully she will take the time to reply.  I only had my eye test last weekend and had an Optimap which i'm waiting for the results for from my optician, this is a sort of indepth test where they can view the eyes in detail including the back of the eye.  I hate these symptoms :-(

Does anyone know what other medication is out there for this?  i am on Nortryptyline and have been for a year now but i don't think it's working for me anymore.  I do have a follow up hospital appointment about this soon so i can discuss it with the doctor but just wondered if anyone is taking other types of medication? thanks

Hi Carina....I think we have spoken awhile ago. I was dianoised or should I say misdiagnoised with MAV (migraines associated with vertigo)  I believe this is what you are talking about.....OK...here it goes...went to many many doctors and testing...they all said MAV........ended up seeing a headache specialist because this get treated as a migraine.......I was on gabapentin 400 and this was before the headache specialist.....then generic Depakoe started with 250 ended up with 500 mg.....both pills were taken once a day at night.....they helped....enough to make me function and some days pretty good........do your research VERY VERY dangerous drugs.....you can not just stop taking them and when you taper off you can get very bad withdrawals.......I have to consider myself lucky with the withdrawals considering what I was reading......stop taking depakoe June 8.....taking 100 mg of gabapentin......once a day.....going to try again I think the end of August again of course working with dr.......bad withdrawal.......I had asked my doctor if this is not MAV would these medicine help with dizziness.......her response I cant answer that because they havent done enough research   WOW  all this time I was on these meds I questioned the drs.....been reading about eye issues......found out my eyes werent working together....doing much better......So I believe I put all this crap in my system for possibly no reason......Bottom line  go see a neuro optometrist that deals with vertical imbalance.......try to stay off this stuff and please read about the dangers of them

I am due to see the doctor next week for my follow up appointment relating to my MRV.  I am taking Nortryptyline tablets for this but although my dizziness has improved, it's still not right so i will mention this to her.   My unsteadiness/dizziness seems to be frontal head related (like a swaying motion)  and sometimes i wake up with a frontal (sinus) type headache.  Does anyone relate to this? what do you do about it?  thanks

I am glad the med has been a little helpful to you! The doc might increase the dosage or try a different med.

The headache is a migraine symptom. Over 90% of what people think are sinus headaches are actually migraines.

I hope your appointment goes well!

I have similar symptoms. Have you had any luck?

I think it's a virus that no one knows how to test or treat. I'm hypersensitive to pressure changes due to bad weather and altitude. My sinuses/head feel like they will explode when it rains. I have a choking sensation in my throat, and I am off balance with the sensation of being on a rocking boat. Only massage around my head, neck, and collar bone has helped. My Drs just shrug when I suggest a virus and say it should have run its course by now (it's been 6 months). I recently got put on nortriptyline by a neurologist. MRI, CT scan, and vestibular test were all normal which they then considered migraines/increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure. If the nortriptyline doesn't work they will do a lumbar puncture to see what the pressure is. I'm going to see if I can take an antiviral medicine before that.
