MS symptoms? Peripheral Neuropathy?

Hi. I'm new to this and am getting very worried! 3 years ago I started to have this weird buzzing/vibration/electricity feeling in my next to smallest toe on left foot. If I continued to walk on it I had the most horrendous pain and couldn't walk on it at all. My gp said it was gout, I was sceptical, don't consider I'm a candidate for gout, but went away and consumed large quantities of cherry juice. It ebbed away and didn't return ....until recently. About 6 months ago, I had just got into bed when what I can only describe as a massive electric shock type pain/feeling went through me. It went up my left leg, through my abdomen, up my right arm then jumped into my right breast where I had an explosion of extreme pain. At the same time as this I had a bright white light go off in my head. I felt my whole body convulse with the pain and I had to rub at the site for ages to try and make it go away although the path of the electric shock only lasted seconds. It really shook me up but I tried to put it out of my mind. A few weeks later, two fingers on my left hand went completely numb for about two hours then went all pins and needles before the feeling returned. I shared this info with my optician who asked what my gp had to say about it and I confessed I hadn't been. He advised that I should sooner rather than later. After researching, I have concluded that it is all sounding worryingly like nerve damage, possibly MS. I also have fatigue, sleep disturbance, bladder problems, restless legs, brain fog, palpitations etc etc. I am a 58 year old female. Is all this sounding familiar....?

    Hello JayJayBee

Ultimately, I would schedule an appointment with a neurologist.  Write down all your symptoms, what it is, when it first started, did it go away, or become worse etc...

One question that comes to mind, have you had any trauma, injury, to your neck or spine?  That could be the cause of the tingling if there were nerve damage.  There are specific tests that can be done to access the brain fog issues, and if the neurologist was going to check for possible MS, most likely an MRI of the brain would be first.  Depending on what was discovered, possibly a lumbar puncture would follow.  At this point, I would make that list of symptoms, and questions to discuss with the Dr.  So make that appointment.  Once you know for certain what you are dealing with, is half the battle.  Keep us posted and Best Wishes to You.

Hi there, thank you for the reply! I have an appointment with my gp mid October. It is not a given that I will be referred to a specialist. In fact it is becoming more and more difficult due to diminishing resources. I'm not confident that I will be taken seriously and reading other people's experiences worries me as so many say it takes years to get any sort of diagnosis. Doubly worrying as early diagnosis means getting on top of it before it gets worse. 18 years ago, I did have a road accident when I was knocked off my back by a car and I landed on my back. There was no injury to my back but I had whiplash after my head ricocheted onto the road. Ultimately, I developed a frozen shoulder which required surgery. I did also have a period of time when I was deficient in vitamin b12 which I know can result in similar symptoms. I have taken b12 ever since and levels have risen but the damage might already have been done. I will definitely write everything down so I don't forget. The most worrying thing is the electric shock pain I had. It is so horrible and unusual, I've never experienced anything like it and since that I get periods where I get stabbing pains like electric shocks in all parts of the body including my head. Then a period of calm where nothing much happens. I know MS can go along like that sometimes. 25 years ago, we moved into a house where the lady of the house had MS. After signing contracts, we discovered the lady next door also had it. Both ladies were wheelchair bound. Then we found out a man a few doors down also had it. I was worried until it transpired it to all be coincidence as they contracted before moving there but behind the house next door, there is an electricity sub-station, which has played on my mind ever since we moved in... thanks agin for your help, I will come back here and report any progress, here's hoping 👍🏻! X
