MUA at 4 months

I thought I was doing well at 4 months post TKR apart from not being able to cycle.  Having read other comments I just thought it would come eventually.  However at a physio check they said I only had 85 degree bend and should go back and see the surgeon.  I now have MUA  scheduled for next week plus keyhole to hoover up the debris.  It was explained some people are unlucky to get scar tissue that sets like cement.  Has anyone else had this done in the UK and is it successful.  Will I be able to cycle straight away?

Hi, I had my MUA 5 months after TKR.  I measured 90-100 by physio but because I am only 50, they said I’d need to have it done.  I am now 6 weeks post MUA but I did not have anything else done. I was last measured 120 so I’m pretty happy but still going with exercises, icing etc as swelling still not good and can still feel ‘tightness ‘ around knee.  Good luck with yours. Hope it works well. Sharon

Hi There ,  I had to have the MUC after 4 moths after TKR ,which is now 3 weeks ago

like you I was measuring 85 degrees ,he managed to manipulate and got another 30 degrees

but said I will proberly loose some ,after the muc , I'll be honest the muc procedure was quite tough for me because after I had it done I was put on a cpm machine which constantly bends the knee for 45 hours , I came home 3 days later and I have had so much muscle pain which I have been told could last from 2 to 6 weeks ,my walking isn't very good again and I'm using a stick I also have to carry on with the exercises and the bends  but I have just been able to do a full turn on the bike ,get in and out of my car easier and I've swam 3 times this week so I now feel I'm on the road to recovery ,on this rollercoaster ride of a Tkr .

I felt as if I was getting nowhere before the muc where as now I am ,and even though it's still painfull at times  and I'm taking the pain relief again I feel it's been worth it

    good luck x

Hi goodness 45 hrs on that machine sounds awful.  I was told that I will be put on it but am only staying in hospital overnight.  I just want to increase my ROM so I can cycle again and walk down stairs normally.   Trying not to think of the discomfort but the end result.
