Mucus / Discharge Continues Months After Surgery To Remove Haemorrhoids. Help!

Hi all,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
I had Hemorrhoidectomy / rectal skin tag removal surgery 11 weeks ago. The main focus was two external hemm. / skin tags that were removed, although I also had 2 internal hemmorrhoids. I had a very hard time initially after surgery...I got very constipated, and then every BM was insanely painful for the next week or two. Worst pain of my life by far, and I was left in excruciating pain / shock, writhing on the floor in pain after every trip to the bathroom, even when I was taking the prescribed narcotics.
I have seen my doctor every 3 or so weeks since the procedure and he's been checking my progress, and every time I see him he chemically cauterizes the wound(s) with a liquid that burns. He says it seals the wound and encourages new growth, strengthening the skin.
He has been more or less satisfied with my progress, and a few weeks ago suggested I start the "final stage" of recovery, which is the use of dilators / toys, with the end goal of being able to participate in anal sex if I desire, and/or just get back to normal life.
However, since the surgery, I have had consistent mucus / discharge. It is often yellow in color, sometimes brown, sometimes pale yellow / white, sometimes very dark brown. It seems, to me, to be completely unpredictable. I assumed it would gradually go away over time...but now, 3 months after the surgery, it is still there. Some days more, some days less, but definitely not lessening overall. I use a gauze pad to catch the mucus and I have to replace it multiple times a day. My doctor seems a bit concerned and confused about it...I just saw him last week, and he "burned" me again after taking a look inside, and seeing nothing obviously wrong. He told me to wait a week and then start using toys / dilators again - maybe that will help.
I've read through similar posts in here, and I know many of you are still dealing with pain, etc. so I am grateful that I am mostly pain free.
My doctor did say that, if I am not better / if I am still producing mucus when I see him in a few weeks, he will take me back into the operating room to take a deeper look and see what is going on inside / see if he can fix it. I am absolutely terrified to go back into the OR and have MORE surgery...it was NOT worth the pain / recovery...so I am desperate to finish my healing and have my wound seal itself over / stop producing mucus / discharge.
Can anyone give me any advice??? I am currently taking suppositories and a steroid cream, drinking lots of water, eating a high fiber diet.
Many, many thanks in advance!

I thought the drainage came with healing? I'm 26 days post up and I guess 80% healed? I barely had any drainage/discharge/mucus over the weekend. If your wounds are still open I would assume drainage will be there until they fully heal. I was also told 6-12 months AFTER being fully healed before any anal activity. Have you considered getting a second opinion?

Hi Myers,
Thank you for your reply! And sorry you're going through this too!
I am not really sure...I think the mucus covers the wounds, so it is a natural part of healing, BUT mucus does slow the healing process, so the less mucus, the better. I don't mind if it takes a while to heal...I'm pain-free at the moment...I just want to know I actually AM getting better!
I think I might go for a second opinion if my doctor does indeed request to take me back to the Operating Room. As I am sure you agree, there is NO desire to have ANY operation again!
As for anal sex, my doctor is kind of a specialist in that, and I trust him re: timing. I am starting VERY slow, with small toys / dilators, and gradually building up. I think, in reality, it'll be 6 months at least (from time of surgery) before I have real sex with a person. The toys etc will, he says, help strengthen the muscle and get me "over the finish line" of healing! So I am hopeful that may also stop the mucus...but we shall see...
I hope you're feeling better today!

I was under the impression my doctor took all of my stitches out at my follow up. I had 1 on my gauze tonight and I can feel another poking me. No blood, drainage is only dime size but I'm terrified of having an open wound like others on here have had. UGH!!!!

Sorry to hear that! I didn't have stitches at all so I don't know what that's like. But no blood is a good sign!

@brad07986 it's been a while since you posted. I assume you're healed by now. when did your mucus discharge stop?
I had my hemorrhoidectomy 13 weeks ago and i still have mucus discharge in the same exact manner as you described.
