Mucus in Stool - Does Anyone Else Have it?

Posted , 6 users are following.

I'm very anxious person and tend to worry most of the time. In the last few years I had several episodes of extreme health anxiety.

Last year I noticed some mucus in my stool and since then it is always there with every bowel movement. Now I'm freaking out and think I have colon c., Chron's disease or something like that.

There is always some white or yellow mucus on the top of first piece of stool.

I'm curious if mucus in stool can be caused by anxiety? Does anyone else have it?

Not sure if this could be caused by anxiety, but even if it isn't don't jump to the conclusion of cancer so fast. There are soooo many explanations for your body to do odd things way before the answer being cancer!

Have you seen your doctor? What do they think?

No, I didn't visited my doctor because I'm afraid to be diagnosed. I simply can't accept that my body isn't perfectly healthy. I talked to my friend who's a doctor, he said "most probably hemorrhoids" and that helped a little. However my anxiety levels are very high now.

Until now I was afraid I had thyroid problems, lymphoma, skin cancer and many other conditions. Fortunately I was wrong every time and was perfectly healthy. But this time symptoms are real - that mucus exist for real and blood I saw a few times was real.

While I browsed internet forums for some info about mucus in stool I found that a lot of people who have it also suffer from healthy anxiety. That's why I'm asking if maybe worring too much could cause such symptoms.

I'm pretty sure I have internal hemorrhoids and they can be the cause of bleeding, but not sure if they can cause mucus. In some forums people with hemorrhoids says they have mucus, but some of them are latter diagnosed with U. Colitis, Chron's D. or something other...

Now I'm thinking that my constant worry about health (for no reason) over years caused real damage and that I got some bowel disease. If I had great time instead of lymphoma or something probably I wouldn't have all these problems now.

EDIT: " If I had great time instead of lymphoma or something probably I " should be " If I had great time instead of searching internet about lymphoma or something"

It sounds like it could definitely be hemorrhoids actually, I didn't even think of that. But I say you just go to your doctor and ask... What's the worse thats gonna happn if you go to the Dr?

      - You go to the Dr and find out its hemorrhoids or something else minor and now you can relax.

      OR

      - You go and find out you actually do have something wrong, BUT you caught it early so you are able to take care of it and go back to normal now.

By not going to the Dr you're either gonna be constantly anxious or actually having something wrong and its getting worse and worse until you can't fix it lol. So see, there's really no downside to going to the Dr and asking, there's only a downside to NOT going and not checking it out.

Besides all that ^^ I think you see try seeing a therapist for your health anxiety since it's an ongoing issue. I see one for mine and it helps me a lot. They will rationalize your fears (kind of like what I did there ^^) and give you some reassurance.

One of the things I try to do is NEVER to consult the internet.

Go and see a doctor and trust them. They see 100's of patients every week.

Might be stressed induced IBS. I have this flare up during heightened anxiety periods and when it does, I get mucus in my stool. It's not every time but often. I also get proctalgia fugax which usually indicates to me when I'm going to have an episode like this.

Health anxiety is tough, trust me I know...been there and panicked about pretty much the exact same things. But you've got to try and get use to seeing your doctor and then trusting or at least accepting in their diagnosis. I got a rash and small red lump ony breast and side of chest lately. I did slip for first time in a while and googled which obviously brought up IBC but I regathered myself after a minor crying/panic episode, booked in to the doctor and I've got shingles. Now I know and can treat it properly.

Think of it this way... you're afraid to be diagnosed but you're afraid now worrying about it and self diagnosing. Isn't it better to see a Dr who can provide you with the right treatment option either way?

Hey.  I was just discharged from the ER for similar things.  I’ve been diagnosed with somatization (health anxiety) a few years ago and it has returned.  But now I’m experiecing gastro issues.  Hard to pass stools and diarrhea with sometimes just yellow mucus.  Pair that with abdominal pain and I was in the ER.  Fortunately, my ct scan, blood work, and urine tests all came back normal and the doctor thinks it’s just my anxiety acting up.  I too also had blood in stool last year, ended up getting a colonoscopy, and they found nothing.  I wouldn’t be surprised that anxiety can do a lot of things to the body.  Feel betyer

If your colonoscopy was clean last year, you don't have to worry about any bowel diseases in the next 5-10 years (especially if you're not over 50).

It seems that anxiety and fears cause a lot of gastro problems. As I said I noticed that a lot of people with health anxiety have mucus in stool. There could be two reasons for that:

      1. anxiety, stress, fears cause mucus production or

      2. most of people have noticeable mucus in stool but only people with health anxiety examine  their stools and notice it.

I was a vegan for a few years (I thought that can lower my chances to get ill) and was pretty sure that I can't get any gastro disease. I never used to check my stool. I only started to pay attention after some anal pain and a few drops of blood in the toilet.

Last year I was also worried because my stools were too light and yellow. Latter I learned that was caused by anxiety as well. Indeed my stool turned to yellow these days again, in the same time when I started to panic because of mucus.

This morning I had a tinny amount of mucus and I already feel better. For the last few days I'm taking more water and exercising more. That should decrease my hemorrhoids thus there should be less mucus (ifi it is caused my hemorrhoids).
