Multiple Anal fissures

Hi I've had lichen sclerosis for about 5 years and have suffered with anal fissures for around the same time. I have never thought to put the two together and am wondering if LS causes multiple anal fissures? As I have read that often having multiple anal fissures at once is caused by an underlying condition but it never mentions that LS could be that cause. I have been worrying myself thinking that I may have cancer or IBD as these are the causes they often list. I've been to a colorectal surgeon and they just told me to use lactulose and said they wouldn't examine me at the time as the fissures had recently opened. It's getting me down as I have been suffering for so long

hiya, sadly i can confirm that yes if you have a bad case of LS then you can indeed have anal fissures. I am like yourself and suffer from these too. Blinking painful they are too ! mix that in with the LS it is horrific.

I would say that your anal fissures are definitely part of LS. when I've had them before I apply the steroid cream until they have cleared up, it works really well.

Yes I apply the steroid cream there occasionally but have been hesitant to as I was worried it would thin the skin if it wasnt caused by LS . i think I will start applying It more now

Hi, I have them too and yes they are so painful. My Colorectal Surgeon recently injected them with botox, that was three weeks ago and if im honest no real difference as yet. The best thing you can do is take stool softeners everyday just to make it bearable. I have sachets on repeat prescription from my gp, they are essential for your comfort. Good luck Lovely x

Thank you for replying, what stool softener do you use? Do you experience more than one at a time as well? Sorry to hear that the Botox hasnt helped, I was hoping my surgeon would suggest something like that but they havent so far

Hi I take Laxido 1 sachet per day from gp. I have been told that the botox can take a few weeks to kick in, but Im not sure this is effective for fissures caused by LS if im honest. The key thing really is never to get constipated and try to cut out sugar, Ive noticed a massive flare since I have been stress eating crap during the current Covid 19 situation xx

Everything I have read about LS says it affects the vulva and anal area. Can't imagine why your doctors haven't explained this, unless you have other conditions contributing to the fissures. Have you done research online? I would question the doctors directly about LS causing fissures to see what they have to say. If you can find info online supporting it bring it to them. Good luck.

Hi,
And drink plenty of fluids. I haven't been constipated since I've been drinking a huge cup of tea every day and plenty other liquids. And I haven't had to take a softener, but please take it if it works. I have LS but not anal fissures. My anal region does get sensitive at times and bothers me. I found that soaking in the bathtub for 20 minutes in warm water with 1/3 cup of baking soda soothing. Hope this helps.

since you are discussing a question that i am having, may i please ask if anyone gets the white dots around your mouth? The area where your lips end? I don't know how to put it any other way. Since dental work I keep seeing this. I do not know much about this at all. I too have steroid cream but hesitating to put it near my mouth.
My Dr's I am afraid to ask this.

If you have any kind of skin fissure, try taking a Vit B supplement. It helped the cracks I had at the edge of my mouth years ago. I take them every so often now just to be protective. Vaseline or other petroleum jelly may help. Are you using coconut oil or some type of natural moisturizer?
Best of luck.

It is not recommended for use on sensitive facial skin in general unless under a doctor's order (according to what I found by googling). Why are you afraid to ask your doctor about this? Your doctor knows much more than we do about basic medicines. I would ask your dentist first what might be causing the problem as it started after the dental work. Has either the dentist or doctor seen these dots?
I was prescribed a medium level steroid to put on my forehead near my hairline for dermatitis by a dermatologist , but my GP said it was not a good idea and he prescribed an anti-fungal. Always best to see a doctor rather than use a medication on another part of your body other than what it was prescribed for.
