Multiple ear infections as a teenager. Why?

Hi! I'm 17 and this is my third ear infection this year. Last year I had two. And the year before I had one left untreated so bad it left me without much hearing in one of my ears for weeks. Obviously ear infections are common in younger kids, but I rarely ever hear of anyone else my age getting them. Especially not as much as I do. Why do I get them, and why are they always so bad? They always occur in my left ear and are always so bad that I lose hearing for quite a while.

I think it stems fro the first ear infection you had, it was untreated for some time and that can cause problems.

I too have left ear problems. I first had an ear infection in my left ear, tried several antibiotics without any luck. Took nearly 4 months for the infection to clear. Now I have ear problems all the time.

I was recently (10 days ago) in Kenya for a holiday and developed an ear infection and due to poor medical practices over there, I decided to fly home to the UK (7hr flight to Turkey then 4hrs to London) ... bad idea .... during the first flight I had a double rupture of the eardrum in my left ear. Very very painful.

10 days on my Dr has only just been able to see inside the ear as the swelling has reduced just a little. It is so bad that ENT surgeons have been contacted in case I need a surgical repair of the eardrum.

I would suggest you research preventative measures on Google, see what things you can do to reduce the likelihood of you getting ear infections.

1 quite simple one would be to use ear plugs whilst in the shower and swimming pool (especially outdoor swimming pools as there's mire chemicals in the water)

Hopefully this is informative and helps you out
