Things like leg brace may help expecially for foot drop. I'm much more confident with the brace and don't have too conentrate too hard now when walking.

hi, might your daughter consider some kind of counselling? it's a very difficult condition for any of us to wrap our heads around. adding falls to the many emotional issues is , perhaps, knocking her confidence more than she is necessarily able to process. i had a nasty tumble over a wooden chair and was really shaken.

as her mother, you obviously have her best interests at heart, however, one thing i would caution you agains,t is wording anything about your daughters ongoing health issues as you wanting to MAKE her walk, this is her issue to deal with, probably best for you to think in terms of ENCOURAGING her rather than making.

    best wishes.

The best way to handle fear is confront it. After my diagnosis, I went to a physiotherapist and took fall prevention classes which also included practicing how to fall in the best way to cause the least injury. It has been enormously helpful in reducing falling and when I do fall, I haven't injured myself in over 10 years. I recommend it for everyone with MS and it's also good for elderly people.

Hi, I have secondary progressive MS and am 51.  I walk with a walker in the house as I no longer can walk with a walking stick. My balance is rubbish and I have also lost confidence with a walking stick. I have tried lots of medication but the only one which seems to help is Baclofen.  It slightly removes partial stiffness in my legs. I find that I walk better with pumps than with shoes and I am better on wood/liminate flooring than carpets. I use a mobilty scooter when I am out and about which I find fantantic as I don't fall or worry when I am on the scooter.  All you can do is perservere but you may find that a physiotherapist may be able to give you exercises that may help your balance.  Good luck.
