Muscle fasciilation waking me in sleep

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has this in their sleep? It's getting that I'm nervous of going to bed. Over the past 18 months I've been woken up by either my left or right cheek rippling! It can be every night or go 3 weeks until it happens again. I'm scared of ALS. Drs fob me off with overworked facial muscles. I'm not sleeping well at all. Thanks for any help.

Hi Christina,
This is so annoying, isn't it? I actually get in my ears too. Not inside, but around the rim of my ear - where I didn't even know I had stuff that moved! All I can say by way of reassurance is that I've had it for at least the past 20 years so it can't possibly be ALS in my case.
I'm actually a former neuro nur se so I do actually know there can be many causes of fasciculation - or often no apparent cause at all - and ALS certainly isn't the most common. I definitely find it happens more often if I'm stressed or anxious, so I guess that's the cause in my case.
I'd suggest that you just stop worrying about this, as your anxiety is probably making it much worse. In any case, fasciculation is rarely one of the first symptoms of ALS or any other degenerative disease. If you'd had ALS for 18 months you'd be having other, much more noticeable, conditions by now.

Hi Lily,
Thank you so much. I've been so worried. Last night it jolted me awake and was wondering if it was sleep apnea. So many things go round your mind and yes I'm certain stress makes it worse.
