Muscle pain in back?

Posted , 8 users are following.

I was diagnosed with polymyalgia last June and now reduced to 9 pred a day.

I have muscle pain on the right hand side of back at waist level but only when walking for about 10 mins or housework etc. It is ok when resting. Dr believe it's to do with my back rather than the polymyalgia. Does anyone else have problems with just one muscle once on the pred? New to the site so hope I have posted this correctly.

Ive been having Bowen for roughly 8 sessions now, at the advice of Eileen. All I can say is its a miracle. It wont cure PMR but my back has improved by say 70%. my hips were so painful I had to suppport one leg if i needed to cross the other.

It took about three sessions before I strated to notice a difference and it makes it worse for a few days as it works through...I cannot believe that I can actually cross my legs without pain.

I would recommend it to everyone.

By the way she also sorted out my neck too.

Thank you it does seem that trying Bowen is worth doing. I am going to try it. I was worried as my local lady was not registered with the Bowen Association but have found her on the Europeon college of Bowen studies as Eileen suggested. I hope I have some good news to report in a few weeks!!

Good luck. Remember to give it a chance. I did find some relief after one visit though...but for three days it was worse, strangely.

The bad bits have concentrations of cytokines - the same substances that cause the symptoms of pain and stiffness in PMR except there they are all through your system. Any of the therapies release them into your blood stream - whether it is Bowen, manual mobilisation or massage - and so you feel worse before you feel better. It's totally normal if a bit disappointing to feel rubbish the next morning!

Eileen, much to my surprise I found a Bowen massage therapist fairly close to my home here in Vancouver, WA when I "googled" Bowen Massage Therapists.  I called and spoke to the therapist on the phone.  She says that she has 2 years experience in Bowen Massage Therapy.  Would this be enough?  She said to stop by and pick up some literature about Bowen Therapy, and then I would meet with her.

Please, can you tell me what to look for to see if she is experienced?  She said it would take an hour, but there is some resting and relaxing time in between.  Thanks for your information regarding Bowen.  It would be very new to me.  Erika

Everyone has to start somewhere. They do a course and learn the basic "moves" and then progress from there. The more experience they have obviously the better in terms of trying different things but my girl here in Italy is relatively new and fine. It's like a lot of things - it's probably quicker to get to the root of something difficult  with someone who has done it for years - but you won't ask a taxi driver how long he's been driving will you? I notice a difference between her and Joanne in England - but Joanne's also a very down to earth NE lass. The girl here is much more artistic and emotional in approach.

It is a very gentle (maybe esoteric fits) therapy. You will feel relaxed even after one session, you may hurt a bit, drink lots of water, but after 2 years she should have a good background.

Sounds very good.....I am looking forward to my first Bowen session because of my back pain.  I need all the help I can get --- Physical Therapy did not do it.

Thank you, Eileen!  I am grateful for your opinion.  I will look forward to a session with her sometime next week.
