Muscle pain in neck

Hello,

Has anyone ever had problems with the muscles at the base of their head/upper neck? I believe they are the suboccipital muscles. Whenever I lay down or sit a certain way it almost feels like these muscles are pulsating. I’m not sure if this is the right terminology or not. I am waiting for an appointment with my doctor but this is driving me crazy.

ive had these problems since i was 20(i am 54 now). it started out as a sore neck from muscle spasms, but Fiorinal helped that episode. now, i am 19 years post surgical for the removal of c5-6 and c6-7 disks along with bone grafts with titanium fusion(ACDF) due to rupture and bulge. apparently many peopke with neck muscle issues are more prone to have these problems later on in life due to weak muscle support.
